Ok so in the not so very far future I will be in the market for a sub 5 second car.
As not to sound like a complete noob I will explain. I'm lookin g to spend about 10k and now I had been looking at an m3 can be driven everyday servicing is reasonable etc. But I would love to buy British and the m3 would almost be a stop gap for a few years before looking possibly at a db7 or the likes. But the cerbera had escaped my memory until a few days ago and I have since then been trawling posts on here from potential buyers and checking out the classifieds.

I am fully aware of the need to check history and it's more about how much has been spent on the car rather than mileage or age.

Can someone who has driven the 4.2 and the 4.5 tell the difference I've heard the torque is more savage in the 4.2?
Does anyone drive there's regularly even everyday?

Thanks

Hi

I only talk from only ever driven a 4.2, I try and drive mine most days when home i work 3weeks on/off. I don't use it over the winter as i take it off the road to fettle and improve. I would not use one to commute daily if not in the right frame of mind these become a chore to drive. It is plenty quick too much for the road TBH.

But in the right frame of mind and some good weather not much can come close to how much fun you can have on 4 wheels. Using it daily would take this away from me. After 3 weeks of using mine i am ready for a break from it, And it is a welcome break to drive a normal car that blends in.

Lol I drive a diesel taxi everyday and anything is better than that. I have quite quickly become a fan of the cerbera especially after reading a comment on how much lbft/litre it produces I have read alot of David vizards books haha. How long have you owned yours for?

Thanks

I have owned my Cerbera for 2 years now but owned a Chimaera for 3 1/2 years before that. Great fun cars if used as a toy. And you have to be really keen to use it daily not to mention the running cost could be very big.

Do you ever think of buying anything else?
Realistically it would get used a few takes in the week and on a Sunday. Service intervals?
I have read up about potential costs but then if they do they do and I'll have to the snap on man send get a haynes Manual lol

I see from your profile you are in Sussex. If you want a ride in my 4.5, just let me know.

I think the cerb works better as a second car to keep the experience special, plenty use them daily but that needs dedication, with regards the 4.2 & 4.5 the 4.2 pulls harder lower down the revs but the 4.5 comes into its own at about 5k revs.

Both engines are great, you would not be disappointed with either.

Not sure why that posted twice forums on a phone = fail. I would be very interested in a ride? I live in Worthing you?

This is the point of me buying a cerbera for example I get a little frustrated with spending all my driving in a diesel.

I doubt i will sell my Cerbera I have put far to much time and money in to it now and i can't see anything out there to fill the gap it is such a pretty thing to look at and so special to drive. I would buy a second toy to stable mate it. I have Convinced my GF to get rid of our Mini cooper s and we are considering a BMW E46 M3 cab for next summer. When i get home this time i am going to start to hunt for a Hack looking at Pajero 4x4 lwb or a Nissan Terrano. I miss having a big car i don't care about TBH

Service intervals are every 6k and 12k

The 12k being more involved with the likes of valve clearance checking and adjustment.

That's the view I'm coming round too. For 10k m3 or cerbera 20k m5 or db7 30k c63 or even 360 modena.
Obviously they are not going to be the best examples but a benchmark I worked out. Now in my eyes the cerbera seems to offer all the same a 30k does also you will encounter the same mechanical issues if not more costly.

Perfect I work in lancing sometimes have to let me know when your around?

I havnt seen many 4.5's about?

I don't think they will cost any more to run than any other car of this performance level. If you buy a good well sorted car you will hit the ground running. Always buy a TVR on condition first and fore most as most people will tell you on here.

Stupid phone lol, I plan on talking to people about what to look for and researching heavily on any car I look at seriously.
For now I'll keep watching the very limited choice of YouTube clips on the cerbera lol

Not sure what you'll end up with for 10k TBH?

For that sort of figure you will have to have a bit put by & be prepared to get stuck in , or have a thick wad for the specialist.

Not trying(wanting) to sound disdainful but a Cerbera is not about sub 5 secs light sprints or just using it to go to work etc it would just ruin it. They do like to be opened up & you cannot safely or legally open up any Cerb in a built up area.
The M3 sounds more suitable for the use you have described above, I have owned M3's 911's etc & they are not comparable on any level, in quite a few they are better ie refinement, pop down the shops etc .

The cerb is a suck it & see type thing, if you dont get it you'll hate it , but if you do get the bug you'll fight tooth & nail to keep it in prime condition. Hope that came across as freindly as its supposed to be ?

There are some very nice cars for sale (Robcos) at the moment but 10k ,you may have to add another 4k+ to that.
