Hi all
With all the bad news about fuel hoses around today, and I am glad all are okay, I thought you could all perhaps be cheered up by the thought of a Cerbera with an FFF head now being in existence.
My story is vaguely as follows, had over heating issues which were eventually traced to a failed head gasket. At that time I was unemployed having quit my old job (another story, but many thought I was mad in this world) so I SORN'd the car for the winter with the hope that I wasn't unemployable and would get her back on the road for summer. Thankfully things worked out better than expected and I sent Cerb to the nearest garage (which then happened to be Racing Green) to confirm the diagnosis in early Summer. This confirmed the issue and I then got sucked into the upgrade options, whilst the engine is out etc etc..... So now I have a Cerb with an FFF head, Syvecs, Simplex timing chain, new clutch (with lightened fly wheel) & a spanking newly painted engine bay amongst other minor tweaks.
I have driven a total of 295 miles so far and it is certainly now quieter from the front of the car than before, but my god the noise from the back end has grown, either that or my memory is shot. Researching before I have ordered the upgrades (including on here) I had got the impression the popping and banging would be something of the past. But no, it is more epic than ever at the moment. So whilst it might be a twist of the current running in engine map, I am anticipating the post mapping 'hooligan' mode will do more than fill the noise gap left. Cannot wait for TITT. In fact I am so concerned about the noise on start up that I have just ordered some track day silencers so I can perhaps escape from the new house I am moving to in Sept without the neighbours hating me - a very important point when you consider it will be my way of getting to work including early starts.
Anyway, I am keen to get through the running in miles as it is going to be my daily car in 2 weeks time.

Good news, if it achieves the same power as other FFF engines you will have a very, very fast car on your hands and a top notch engine according to other FFF customers. I think this is the first Cerb with this engine upgrade also. The options for speed six drivers is getting very exciting. Enjoy.

You Said,
"This confirmed the issue and I then got sucked into the upgrade options, whilst the engine is out etc"
I bet it didn't take much persuasion. It's up there with - 'C'mon, we're only going to have a couple beers'
Glad your happy with your car and engine upgrade. Seems like it's all positive feedback for the Speed Six engine upgrades and you will probably have more confidence driving it too. So, you reckon some people may think you're crazy. But you ain't no fool. Congrats! You're perfectly qualified.

Congrats OP that's a good upgrade. I wonder how the costs compare to a Power 4.3 or 4.5 upgrade
.
Be interesting to see what it makes on the dyno once you've run it in.
Or do RG make you sign something about not publishing such things?
I think this is the right link for the info to date: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Thanks for all you comments. No secrecy required, I will publish what I know when I find out unadulterated.
Re-reading the TVR power ad Racing Green websites you can fairly accurately make out the cost from there. But there is never going to be a direct comparison as each car is unique.
If you are genuinely in the market I would suggest you email and have a chat with the obvious people. I have always found Jason and Dom willing to talk and explain things as well as Racing Green.
Is any garage doing development of the AJP v8s in the same manner as the speed six? The potential market must be smaller, but no doubt there is a more to come with the v8 as well.

The S6 development was largely driven by reliability issues. The AJP doesnt suffer as badly (says he!).Re-reading the TVR power ad Racing Green websites you can fairly accurately make out the cost from there. But there is never going to be a direct comparison as each car is unique.

The AJP has had lots of developments eg increase capacity (4.7, 4.8, 5.0, 6.0), forced induction, whirlwind, exhausts (linked de-cats), head tweaks etc
Who knows, maybe its also had more siginificant head design as well...?

It was a bit of a sweeping statement from me (!) but the S6 design/parts issues did create an opportunity for people to step in where TVR failed. Not all of this went well (Autocraft/SXS) but it sounds like the S6 is no longer the poor relation thanks to those companies that have 'resolved' the issues. Humble pie has never tasted so good :-)

Wow - haven't followed the S6 numbers for a while... Hats off to whoever designed that fff head. Seriously kicking sand in the face of most ajp cars.
Interesting to see that Deans car is now pushing 412bhp on Surrey rollers as in Aug 2011 it was 385ish? Nice to know he found the missing 30 horses. However that's a 4.5 S6 pushing around the same as a decent 4.5 AJP. Any difference in the weight of the engine?Nice to see any TVR development tbh, long may it continue. I do love the sound of the S6 at full chat do these 'new engines' sound much different. I know my 8 after all the work not only went stupidly fast it sounded completely different under full load.
just need to add another 2 cylinders now............

So all run in now and just been mapped. A little lower than some of the other FFFs that have been done, but then no one is quite identical - probably why we all buy a TVR in the first place. But 400 plus has got me smiling, cannot wait to pick her up again on Friday. Cannot quite believe the warranty deal you can get these days on a car like this so given it is time (and not mileage) limited I intend to drive as much as possible.
Thankfully all seems to be working well as daily driver so far - even the neighbours don't seem to mind the early mornings which is partly thanks to the Tuscan down the road getting them used to the straight six burble. Suspect I will be tempted back on to the train if it snows though I will certainly be thinking harder than I had ever imagined before doing so. Will add some more impressions when I have got some re-mapped miles under my belt but it is so much smoother and quieter below 3500rpm, and then just a beast after revving faster (lighter flywheel too) and popping and banging more than ever. How much of that has been due to the rich running in map I will find out soon but any thoughts of this mod removing some of the animal are gone. It has tamed it a little at lower revs but only by making the top end more aggressive in personality.
Next challenge is finding a track I can actually get past the noise restrictions of for the spring - any suggestions? & don't you just love the cerbera
