Looking at buying a car, the said is on a q plate, would I be able to put a private plate on this to rid it of the q reg?

I feel they just look awful on a q and just tells everyone it's a accident repair.

Certainly is. What car is it? You may be able to re-SVA it onto a dated plate if you can prove the age of the major components

Out of curiousity, what happens if you export and then import it again?

That's why Q plate cars are cheaper, to me it screams stolen recovered unidentified or straightened out after a prang. Just curious, any other reasons for a Q plate?

Kit car! I can't think when I last saw normal car on a Q-plate. Probably an old mk3 Escort about 15 years ago!

Why would stolen/recovered or damage repaired be on a Q?

I thought Q was for indeterminate age, kit car out of differently sourced parts or import where the original age was not clear?

In the olden days stolen/recovered cars went on a Q plate, I haven't seen one in more than 10 years though!

Ah, fair enough, thanks.

I've only ever seen a Q on a kit car.

The car is an escort cosworth, they have a bad enough reputation (stolen parts etc) without having to be on a q plate.

If a car is recovered but all It's numbers ground out and there's no chance of identification it gets re registered on a Q plate. Not seen so much these days as security on cars has increased and most of The nicked stuff exported.
