Car has gone in for a new bumper, but how do they match the paint?

I have told them the car has had a respray in the past and that the paint is NOT the same as the colour code (close, but definitely different) would suggest, so how do they match it?

Suspect they will match it by eye.

We use a spectrometer which is linked to PPG's database. We get the nearest to it then colour match with the spectro. There is also an eye for the colour that's why decent painters get paid to match.

Or like my friend you use a spectrometer and then give the wrong tin of paint to the colour blind sprayer.

Thats how he ended up with a red wing on a green car. laugh

It turned out ok as he liked the colour and its now completely red.
