Time for Vegas
Discussion
Next Wednesday I head over there with a mate.
We're all sort of sorted in regards of trips, they're area 51, grand canyon, and gun store.
I'm a bit nervous about driving! Any tips on this? The car is a V6 Mustang with no doubt a bad gearbox.
Any other tips/advice for me? We are staying in the planet hollywood towers/elara.

The OH and I took a Hummer H2 out, dam it was larger than the ewidth of a lane on the freeway.
Driving in Vegas is actually very easy, as the lights keep the distance travelled in the city down to a minimum so everything is a little pedestrain. Out of the city its fine too - well made roads, clear signs and just remember than you are on the opposite side of the road so turning right is easy and turning left you have to check both lanes.
Apart from that I'm sure you'll be fine

How are the police?
Good? Bad? Ugly? Would they appreciate a joke or is it yes sir no sir?
Do all that you can to avoid any kind of encounter with them. They deal with so many dheads on a daily basis that their tolerance for smartassery is nil.Good? Bad? Ugly? Would they appreciate a joke or is it yes sir no sir?
Your rental Mustang is going to be an 6 speed auto, which is actually well matched to this car.

If you are unfortunate enough to get pulled over, DO NOT get out of the car. Stay in your seat with your hands in clear sight on the steering wheel.Good? Bad? Ugly? Would they appreciate a joke or is it yes sir no sir?
As has already been said: A STOP sign means STOP. No, really. STOP. Completely.
At a four way stop sign, everyone goes in turn. Watch the order in which people arrive and be ready to go when it's your turn.
Do not change lanes as you pass through a junction.
Be careful when turning right on red. Make doubly sure it's OK and watch for pedestrians.
The centre lane is usually for turning left.
Did I mention not to get out of the car and keep your hands where they can be seen?
As others said, driving in Nevada is easy- mostly big roads with higher speed limits than most of the US. I treat US police like their immigration officials- if dealing with one be super polite, call them sir or ma'am and don't joke with them unless they joke with you first. Luckily I've only been pulled once over there for going through a Stop sign, he let me off for being British...
Btw, if you're driving to area 51/Rachel, it's a loooong drive on pretty boring roads- there's not a whole lot between Vegas and there. But worth it if you're a ufo geek

I drove in Vegas when we hired a Mustang and drove to the Hoover Dam, very pleasent drive and drove back when it was dusk and it was such a awesome sight. We have been twice and for 10days each time we have taken around $3.5k each time but won about 2 - 3k each time aswell, it felt good being up in a place like that. Enjoy yourself cannot wait to go back.

How on eart are people spending so much money!?? I've been to Vegas twice for 4 days at a time, Ate out at decentish restaurants, Watched a few shows, gambled a bit, and then went to the clubs and drank all night and both times spent no more than $2500!!! I wasn't scrimping at all either. I guess it's down to how much you want to spend on gambling really? I can't think of anything else that would put the cost up so much more dramatically?

What is the pricing of food/drink and clothes?
Drinks are free when you gamble, machines or table, in the bars again vary quite abit.Food varies depends what you want and where you eat.
Clothes, there is two outlet stores, one south of the strip and one north of the strip, the gold line bus's go to both I belive and around $7 for a allday bus pass which is handy.

Hope that helps
Miracle Mile is *roughly* opposite the Bellagio Resort on the strip and is good for shopping as well if you don't want to venture far.
