I was just reading this stroy on the daily mail:

Am i being thick here, but why would someone just dump an enzo and do a runner, surely it would make more sense to ship it to which ever country they are returning too?

In the UAE it's very bad if you have debts that cannot be paid. Apparently many people simply leave the country.

been discussed many many times on here.

in a nutshell, lose your job and your employer is legally bound to inform your bank and the dept. of immigration. if after a period of time [think 6weeks iirc] you are not employed and you owe money, you go to jail. ergo if you live the high life on a marginal basis, you either leg it or break rocks in the hot sun.

exporting a car is difficult and involves many pieces of paper requiring checks [inc finance owing] by the govt. being caught exporting things you don't own = more prison food.

anyway, most of those cars aren't abandoned. the enzo was impounded as the owner was subject to an interpol investigation. the xj220 was parked by a building site, the others have just been left in the car park for a week or 2 whilst someone's on a jolly.

Ok makes more sense, didnt realise you had to get a job within 6 weeks, thats crazymakes you realise how easy it is here

might be longer than 6 [probably is, looks harsh that], but as long as you're solvent it's fine.

Yup agree but the issue here is the prisons are already full, maybe in dubai they are not as full?

You confuse debt and work visa rules.
Debt laws are probably completely opposite - here (U.K.) you just go to court to get your debts reduced & cancelled (how very humane). Immigration / visa rules are probably quite similar (you have also a number of weeks to leave if you are not longer employed and on a visa).
