E36 M3 woes... Aaargh
Discussion
Folks,
As you'll see from my profile, my ongoing bid to get my M3 how I want it is becoming frankly ridiculous.
The latest fun issue is that, when dipping the clutch for junctions, etc, the revs drop off too quickly and, especially with the aircon on, the car will stall once the revs drop off enough. It's generally feeling a little bit down on power too.
I've cleaned the idle control valve, replaced the throttle position sensor and replaced a number of vacuum pipes. There are no vacuum leaks that I can find.
Any cunning ideas about what to spank money on next?
I was wondering whether resetting the adaptation memory might help given the above components changed.

Yep, no codes apart from the clutch switch that gets deleted with a braided hose...
The clues are there...Get yourself the right braided line, there are version with the clutch sensor mount.
The ECU uses the clutch signal to figure out whether to go into an idle or engine braking mode.
worth trying the MAF, unplug and go for a brief drive, failing ones don't always throw a code if it's intermittent. if the ICV is OK and deffo no vac leaks or intake leaks then might be worth having a look at the throttle butterflies, they can get quite gunged up over time, make sure you're not missing the rubber plugs that sit on top, have you had the throttles balanced? To be honest, it sounds like an intake leak to me, but happy to be proved wrong.
Thanks, I think I might try the MAF.
Throttle butterflies *should* be fine as I've had the lot apart and cleaned it all up (Although they were in an alright state anyway.
I genuinely can't think of anywhere it could be leaking on the intake as I really did check everything whilst disassembling, and the garage double checked it all whilst re-assembling.
It really is going to be something completely bizarre I reckon. Car is back in at Redish on Mon for the MoT so I'll get the adaptations reset/general diagnostic again...

Odd. Sounds exactly the symptoms you'd expect if you had fitted a lightened flywheel. Loss of inertia from the engine. The air-con being on is obviuosly causing a parasitic loss on the engine and making the sypmtoms worse. If it was an air leak, you'd expect it to be present all the time. ICV would be where I would investigate.
MPG is not terrible, although slightly lower than I'd expect. There is a distinct lack of power evident at the moment.
The ICV was my first thought, but I've taken that out and cleaned it now so it should be alright.
Interesting angle regarding the flywheel. The clutch is probably not in the first flush of youth although still functions fairly well. Knackered flywheel?
The only other symptom I can think of of late is possibly a faint burning smell on occasion, although this seemed to have cleared up.
