What's a decent general tyre for a Westfield these days ?
Discussion
I'm almost ready to get my Westfield MOT'ed after 8 years giving it a slow refurbishment whilst I've been doing the parenting thing. The old Yokohama 509s are on the limit so what's the current equivalent ? I've used these & Avon Turbospeeds on it in the past but I'm out of touch with current tyre technology. I stick with narrower tyres as I used to use it in all weathers, hence the need for a complete rework. Any advice welcome.
I use those in 185/60/14 on my car, love them. They seem to be by far the grippiest in the wet
when new and a very safe all round road tyre, but when they wear down ( doesn't take long mind! ) to the wear indicators they become very good track tyres as they are the same compound as the 48R cut slick. You can get several dry airfield/trackdays from an otherwise worn out set. That factor justifies their quick wear / cost for me. I have never tried CR500 but they are limited in sizes and very expensive.

I tried to buy a set of 14" 21Rs last week and they wanted £450 for a set. F***ing winds me up. I bought a set for £280 a couple of years back. I only get 2,500 miles from a set if I am careful so £450 is steep!!
WTF!!!!!I'm stuck with 14" due to brake calipers and am becoming increasingly concerned about [ROAD] tyre availability both now and in the future.
However.....from vrederstien 185-60-14....
Hi-Trac 2
Especially for the summer H segment, Vredestein introduces the Hi-Trac 2. The design is characterised by various V-shaped angled grooves, which in combination with the two sturdy circumferential grooves ensure fast water dispersal. The Hi-Trac 2 has been given an improved tyre construction and a new tread compound. Partly thanks to these, the tyre has an even shorter braking distance and lower fuel consumption. The tyre also gives maximum grip on wet and winding roads. The Hi-Trac 2 features a Vredestein concept which has previously been used successfully: the Off Centre Directional Profile. The rounded tips of the central tread blocks, combined with the Off Centre Directional Profile, make the Hi-Trac 2 a low noise tyre. It also fulfils the stringent European ("-SW") requirements (wet grip and noise).
only thing concerning me is the asymmetric [Off Centre Directional Profile] tread pattern. How is it handed right and left or is it matched??
Explanation.. On the front of the mojo there is pronounced negative camber [which obviously cancels out in the bends
] but in the wet you are affected in some way by the light front end, neg camber and the tyres water clearance abilities.......Anyone tried running all season tyres on their lightweight cars [on the road]?

Yes , I'd love to too but I need about £1,000 worth of rear suspension components to run 13" on the back. However, it is probably a good investment long term if they continue to rip us off in 14" for the decent stuff. Will have a word with Raw. And you can sell me your old knackered tyres Jeff :-)

i was just thinking about getting another set of these, only payed £50 a corner for 14's a couple of years ago!! will have to see what other options are out there!Cheers, that's about what I used to put in them. Anyway, got it back from it's first MOT for 9 years after the new Yokos were put on (I've been doing the parenting thing). As I bounced around over the rough tarmac thinking "I used to enjoy this ?!! Maybe I've got old/gone soft" I decided to check what pressures the garage had put in. 32 PSI in the back, about the same in the front. So I let nearly half the air out & it was pleasant again like it used to be.
The A021s seem sticky though I'm taking it gentle til I get used to the car again. They performed well when I got caught in a decent downpour with no skitishness apparent. I'm interested to see how long they last, the guy in the garage did question me as to whether I really wanted them as he said they were very soft. Though it was nice to know they gave a stuff about that sort of thing instead of just taking my cash.
