I'm thinking about booking our car in with specialist M-Star in Manchester for a service as they are massively cheaper than the main dealer. Anyone got any experience of them? I am aware of the other specialists in the area but these seem to be the cheapest by a good margin. I've checked that everything will be done in accordance with the schedule and that the Digital Service Book will be updated.

If I was you I'd speak to you local dealer and see if they'll match the quote you've got from the specialist; I'd be surprised if they wouldn't come very close to it.

Will do, didn't think they'd be open to haggling.

Would still be interested to hear if anyone has used M-Star as well.

I use M Star to look after my SL500, best indy I have used in the NW. Very knowledgeable and the work is first rate, as is their problem solving abilities. Paul & Gary are in charge, both no nonsense guys.

I've heard very good things about M-Star too, although I've never used them for the reason given above. I have never failed to get MB to match an indie quote.

And be aware that there can be quite a big price difference between MB dealers themselves; for example MB in Hull were a lot cheaper than MB Leeds.

Its a fair point but if the car in question is older then its Indy every time for me as the main dealers often will not have anyone who worked on the cars when new. Less important for routine stuff but very important for fault finding etc.

I had the car serviced with M-Star today. Very pleased. As our car is still under warranty, an important point is that they can update the Merc Electronic Service Record on line. They were approximately half the price of the main dealer quote and that includes a couple of extra little jobs.

I didn't bother trying to get the main dealer to price match as I'd had a less than stellar experience with them in the past, and would rather spend it where it seems to get good value and be appreciated.
