Chimy tuning - 4.0

I've just purchased my first TVR a 4.0 Chimaera - it needs a sports exhaust and aliminum switchgear - any suggestions - think cheap!!

Any cheap ways to increase the performance eg K&N air filter or what do you guys suggest?

let's get this right? you purchased a 4 litre and you need more performance? did you know TVR do a 4.0HC, 4.3, 4.3BV, 4.5, 4.5BV, 5.0 and 5.0HC in that body style??? all with more performance ....

I know! Should'ave bought a 5.0 but budget didn't stretch to that, so hence some cheap mods!

If you look at the standard air filter and the bore of the exhaust system, I doubt you'll liberate any power there. I get the impression the sports exhaust is more amount noise than much else.

Probably better to consider getting the car set up on a rolling road. Pistonheader Manek has posted on the benfits of this before.

I did some research on what you are talking about, when I was looking for my Tiv. I drove a 4ltr, and whilst they ARE fast, I knew I'd soon want more.
To get more noticeable power out of the V8, you should be thinking about spending some REAL money. NOT budget.

Best thing to do is save up a couple of grand and THEN think about getting gas flowed heads, bigger valves, better cam/lobes, etc.
Don't fart about with air filters and spark plugs, etc.

I know its NOT what you won't want to hear, but its pretty close to the truth.

Get rid of the std Land Rover ECU chip and swap it for a Tornado (5 minute job, as long as you're careful)(get these from www.v8engines.com), then do a rolling road setup to optimise the setup if necessary. You will gain a lot of low down torque, driveability and responsiveness doing this, and it won't break the bank. Fancy air filters probably don't make much difference since the existing one looks quite free flowing and foamy like a race filter (getting technical there).

In my experience, there will be very little gain in torque or power (unless there was something wrong with the original setup), possibly another 5 or 10 bhp at the most which isn't enough to feel. The main gain to be had is in the driveability (transient throttle response, part throttle, low revs etc).

The standard filter is actually made by Pipercross and is about as good as they get , the exhaust is pretty good too , remapping is the way to go.

There are NO cheap ways of increasing performance. Better off selling the car and buying a bigger engine version as it will also have the uprated brakes/suspension etc that you will need to handle the power.
