Hot cabin problems sorted! (?)

On my last track day (Goodwood) I was getting water temperature around 100C on the quick dry sessions.
I have just done another track day (Silverstone GP) and took the number plate off. The temperature controled at a steady 90C.
But something I wasn't prepared for, when I went to out on to the streets looking for fuel with the front plate in the windscreen, the vents were blowing cold air! The flying sauna was no more!
Small number plate to be ordered before the drive to Italy I think. I didnt realise it could actually make that much of a difference.

Illegal. BiB can pull you over, crush the car, sell all your assets and throw all your relatives into a Siberian slave camp....
Alright a bit exaggerated but they are not legal.
So they are illegal. Just keep the full sized one in the boot and swap it over when you get caught. They'll probably let you off.
Mid size plates are available and thats what I'll be going for. They dont look obviously small. Plus when you get pulled over its usually from behind.
Live a little, you only get one chance.
(And I'd rather not be cooked alive during it!).

On mine I have a 3/4 size plate, which is suspended from 2 metal brackets under the front lip. It still sits higher than the air-lip thing behind, but it leaves space for plenty of air to get to the rad 
It's smaller than legal, but standard UK typeface, and not stoopid small, so I think I'd be unlucky to be pulled about it.

Dusty not sure if you noticed it Sunday as you seemed to be looking more at the overall beauty..
I have a 12x3 plate quite small mounted centrally, when i had it made went along to the local Bib shop & asked if i would get in trouble for it.
When the youngish officer had stopped asking me about the car, he said that it was unlikely unless i was doing something silly, & even so it was only a return to the Mot station with the full size plate fitted for a signature & i carry that in the boot anyway.
Obviously i explained it was for cooling purposes only Although it does look so much better than a full size job

Thanks for the info mate, definitly gonna go for the midsize and see what difference it makes.
barreti, if your car has the original front then you won't have to worry about the numberplate size as the cooling hole/grill/mouth/whatever is different to that on the 500.

It's motorcycle letters on a cut down plate.I have a 3/4 sized plate like seasiders on the front, the first week i had it i got pulled for having "non conforming" plates and was given a producer and had to get an MOT station to check they were legal or take the car to the station to get them to check it. I just stuck my originals over the top and took it back to the station. Once home i just pulled them off again and haven't had a problem since. Think the officer must have been having a bad day. Lucky to not get a fine though.

You cant see it in the picture but i have the original number plate screws/covers (sprayed silver of course) on the cross member either side of the small plate, if/when i get stopped perhaps the kind officer will just let me put the full size back on even if its after a bit of
Fingers crossed anyway....
