Help me spend my £1000....

Hi all, I recently opened a topic about road bikes for £700 ish but have now found I can get on the C2W scheme so have upped my budget to £1000 which there seems to be a lot of choice!!
It's my first road bike so want to make sure I get it right. I'll be using the bike a lot (want to get in to sportives etc) so it's not just to trundle along in traffic with!
I've been down to Halfords and had a look at the Boardman Team Alloy and really liked it. Having looked at different reviews this seems to be the benchmark at this price range but before I go ahead, is there anything else I can have for similar money that's as good?

It's hard to buy a bad bike at your price range. Choose the one that you love and fits you best, nothing else really matters.
This. The Boardman has a good frame, fork and wheels, but there's so much choice at the C2W price point it's a personal thing.
Make sure you get some padded shorts.
