Lots of IMHO's on PH on this subject but here's mine:
Mobil 1 0w-40 is like Bat's Piss. NO
Mobil 1 5w-50 is slightly better. Specified in handbook. However, only seems to be available on the Continent.
Mobil 1 15w-50 Motorsport is best. Expensive but nobody said TVR's are low maintenance machines. Available from my local Halfwits too at £35 for 4L can.

Quite common for running in but for main use it is not ideal unless you like changing oil frequently i.e. Don't forget to change it prior to any serious use or long journeys. TVRs sludge mineral oil very very quickly due to the heat which is why a synthetic is a better choice. Once sludged there is little protection.
I use it in the 520. Change it after a track day or a couple of sprints though. Get through boxes of the stuff

What you recommend, I was told the mineral oil would be fine for the next 6000miles and back to full revs and drive as normal

To be honest I use the Mobil Motorsport thicker grade stuff.
It copes with the heat and is thick and gooey.
Normally, minberal running in oil is kept in for 500-1000 miles and then changed. However, if the engine builder says do this then might be worth doing it in case something goes wrong. I would check it regularly and change it as soon as it starts to discolour.

I get my car serviced by the chaps at Top Cats, who do the Tuscan racing.
They said they used Comma semi synthetic oil 10W 40, as the V8 is an old engine, and wasn't designed specifically for synthetic oil, as it wasn't around then.
Mine runs fine, and i change it every 3k miles

Tis an old engine but the version that is in the TVR isn't. The serp engines have a different oil pump, oil ways and so on. Cam wear was reported in the 60s/70s when 20w50 was de rigeur so the old tale of mineral oil will prevent cam wear is misleading as well. This starts to cover old ground. If anyone is interested, the bible has a lot of pages on this.
Just remember using anything less than a 37%/63% mixture of fermented whale blubber caught in the Artic ocean on a Sunday with virgin pressed Olive oil from the third tree on the left on the Isle of Anti-Paxos will result in the cam wearing instantly, the sump cracking and a knock on the door from the oil police.
