Hi all, car just flew through its MOT with no problems, and my colleague drove it back for me. I've noticed that the gearbox is a little noisy, which he has described as 'Thrash in the gearbox'. Has anyone else heard of / noticed this on their cars (A very faint 'zizzing' noise on deceleration while the vehicle is in gear)? Is it a known problem and is there any particular solution? It certainly isn't causing and problems but it is just evident.
Cheers,
Richard

Just found some infor on elises.co.uk which says they're all noisy in 5th and sometimes 4th on overrun. Exactly what I've got then! (I just couldn't remember if my previousl S1 had it.) I'll just turn the stereo up a bit more and let the crackle from the speakers deaden the noise for me.
PG1 gearbox usually sounds like a bag of spanners on overrun. That's quite normal and harmless.
It's the design of the box which allows some of the shafts to vibrate/rattle if they are not under load.
Indeed most common in 4th and 5th.
Actually it's a bit of a noisy box anyway. You also tend to hear the final drive whine/whistle at some road speeds.
Bye, Arno.
