The Mrs and I are off to Canada in just under two weeks, can't wait. She is doing a lot of research into things to do and see, and places to eat. Thought I would ask here for any tips of must dos/ must sees and any good restaurants-we like the odd special treat of fine dining, but generally like to try different things- there is an italian restaurant in Niagara that was on man vs food, so that's definitely getting a visit.

We like sight-seeing, and would also like to get out and see some of the scenery away from the cities. We will have a car for the trip.

Our itinerary is as follows:

3 nt Toronto
1 nt Niagara
1 nt Huntsville
2 nt Ottawa
1 nt Mont Tremblant
2 nt Quebec
2 nt Montreal

Thanks in advance for any suggestions

Can't help with your trip but I am planning on visiting Eastern Canada next year, would be interested in your findings to help me plan mine. We did Western Canada a few years back

Have a great time.

Toronto restaurants:

I like -

-Yours Truly....small and inexpensive, Prix fixe at $45 per head, can bring your own wine if you prefer for a corkage fee of $20 I believe.

-Nota Bene....more expensive but very good food

-If you drive about half hour North, Yangs has amazingly good and made-to-order Dim Sum

-If you like Oysters and lobsters, Rodney's Oyster House normally has 20/30 varieties of very fresh oysters every night. Very basic wine list but good draft beer. Sit at the bar.

Montreal:

I like
-Au Pied de Cochon, maybe the best resto there right now

-L"Express Bistro on on St Denis

-Thursdays on Crescent street is very lively and not too expensive, great Steak Tartare

A few things to do:

Sky walk on the CN Tower...expensive but you walk outside on the perimeter near the top...no walls, secured by a stout harness

Have a few drinks in Yorkville iiN Toronto, lots of bars and casual restaurants. Also the is a very big Chinatown around Spadina st.

Wander Crescent Street ( More English) and Rue St Denis, (very French) in Montreal

Muskoka and Algonquin, and the roads around there. Stunning.

Have a Tim Hortons Double double coffee (or six) for me. It's a guilty pleasure.

When in Montreal go to Europea. Order the multiple course set menu and enjoy. They serve you any of the chef's whims and the food will surprise you. The pasta may be callamri, that sort of thing.

Thanks for the tips so far.

The Mrs has heard of Tim Hortons, but only for the 'Tim bits'. She's now very excited about the double double coffee!

Not sure about the sky walk, but will definitely go up the tower.

I don't suppose we are in the right time of year to do any whale watching?

The whales like the water colder so come out in the winter.

I used to have a house in Mount Tremblant, its a fantastic summer resort and a shame you are not staying longer. I assume your staying in the ski resort area so try Plus Minus or the Micro Brewery (great beer). For a great day or 1/2 day white water rafting or a leisurely kayak ride in Tremblant national park.

We are staying in the plaza st bernard, looking on google maps, the plus minus is very close by. Will give it a go. We are planning on getting to Tremblant early to make a whole day of exploring, I guess its very easy to just walk out of the hotel into some good walks/countryside? Will think about something on the water, although have no experience of kayaking!

Thanks
Adam
