In todays paper, a 22 yr old man driving without a licence or insurance, didn't even bother turning up at court and is fined £200 + £43 costs....

What the hell is going on, if I turned up suited and booted to defend 37 in a 30 the least I could expect is £140 + costs + points.

This guy doesn't have a licence to put the pints on, what does he care?

The whole system is badly badly wrong and emmigration is looking a better prospect by the day.

Ah but was he speeding?

With farcical sentences/fines like this, it's no surprise that many drivers fail to insure their cars.

What if he'd killed somebody?

Lock him up......

I agree wholeheartedly. How is a fine of this proportion supposed to deter people from driving without a license or without insurance, especially the young financially limited yet, inexperienced driver??

This is totally ridiculous.
The Government need to investigate some form of state sponsored insurance scheme for younger drivers in order to encourgae them to tax & insure their vehicles properly. Also it would be advantageous for an insurance certificate to be displayed in a vehicle so as other road users or passing Coppers can see that a vehicle is properly insured just as with Tax.

It's crap, but the system caters for the poor and those on benefits...(workshy set of twats my Father calls them...:yes)

I know what you mean about the sentence being better than paying the premium. The only consolation is that 6 points is awarded and if it happens again the driver is disq and further breaches mean arrest.

I got a result back of one of my jobs today...A few weeks ago you might remember me telling you about rolling around on the forecourt of a petrol station with a disqualified driver. Well he got 4 months imprisonment for the offence. That's not too bad a result.

Cheers..

More good news...I had a pursuit with the Disq driver's brother several months ago which resulted in the guy crashing head on into another vehicle.

Thankfully the other vehicle's occupants escaped injury, but the driver I was chasing suffered broken legs and dislocated pelvis. He's also recently been in court for the incident and got 10 months inside..

Exactly. They should make them pay DOUBLE what the fully comp insurance would have been... and then a bit more.

Good result.

But getting back to the point of the thread.

The insurance companies do not take into account your ability to pay the insurance quotation they have provided. It is what it is.
Why would scum bag A, pay £1000 a year to insure his sh@tbox corsa worth less than the insurance premium, when he knows if he gets caught its a couple of hundred quid paid by a fiver a week??
I read somewhere that the estimate has now grown to over a million unisured drivers in the UK. And with the continuing influx of both legal and illegal imigrants coupled with sky high insurance this situation will only get worse.

Problem lies with how the courts actually enforce the fines..The scum generally are dolescum and get bugger all money...They bleat to the court about their babies needing food and their girlfriend being pregnant etc and the magistrates go all misty eyed at them..

A decent bloke who is working and has a nice house appears before the same court because he has missed his renewal date by a couple of weeks will be fined £600 and it'll have to be paid..

Absolutely crap..

What great news, my renewal date is only a month away, I think I'll skip it now. Being a criminal is much cheaper and I'll never get caught, unless I live near Streetcop

(and I case Marry is reading this thread... I am joking)

But this guy has no licence...he could be the most dangerous driver in the world...no licence means no points which means no prizes.

BigBazza..
They get a 'licence' created in their name...driver number and everything...when banned they become..: disqualified until test passed..

To drive they have to have a supervisor and L plates. Anyone of those missing leads to arrest and prosecution.

Congratulations on the above success, and the case of the ruffian on the forecourt. More of the same please, but take care of yourself.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

I read something along those lines some months ago, and I wonder how that percentage has changed (probably increased) during the past few years.

Maybe this again is a minority view, but why should I be, in a way, 'forced' out of what I think of as my country? My inclination is to stay and try to play a part (as best I can) in changing things for the better, though that may be thought of as foolish idealism. On top of that it seems as if the task is getting bigger by the day.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

I keep saying this but if a fine is ability to pay based then a prison sentence should be disruption to life based ie. a married man with a job a fortnight inside would probably mean loss of job, possibly house and head lowered in public, where as for Joe Scrote 2 MONTHS inside would be a holiday, the council will home you and you now have kudos amongst your mates, ramp it up to a couple of years and rob them of some serious time.
