So my S02's are on their last legs and I'm keen to get some new rubber broken in before my next track day in October. The dealer I bought the car from gave me two new TOYO's for the front as part of the deal, so these will be going on regardless. The question is should I go for TOYO's on the rear also, or is there a better choice out there bearing in mind that most of the mileage I put on the new set will be during the autumn/winter months?

Your thoughts please Ladies & Gents...

thanks

Matt.

I'm well happy with the Toyo's on our Griff.

I would just make sure the backs match the fronts... the handling is tricky enough without having the tyres fighting each other as well! IMHO, of course.

I was thinking of whether avon or yoko did something stickier for the rear (ooeer). Surely this could only be an improvement for handling?

They do but they either last a couple of hundred miles or are not road legal. BTW a set of Avon slicks for a Griff come out at around £1000+ a set.

Agree with maggit - well happy with the Toys's - much better than the SO3's and Avon we had on previously.
Both in the dry and the wet as the car is used daily.

You would then just understeer all the way round. Stickies, great for grip (not handling?) but all or none I reckon?

Would think you should to stick with the same all round. If you put something more grippy on the back you may find things quite interesting when you stand on the anchors. In my experience anything that is very sticky in the dry is decidedly un sticky in the wet. A really grippy, road legal, dry choice is the Yokie A023r but you wouldn’t want to run them everyday, would wear out in no time.

Toyo's work for me on the road, not so sure how they stand up to a track day tho.

Thanks very much for the advice guys, especially as this was yet another tyre thread. Much appreciated.
Looks like its TOYO's all round for now then...

Oh No! I have SO2's on the front and SO3's on the rear. Does this mean the fronts need replacing? as the rears are new.

I've been running SO3/SO2 for a couple of years now with no problems. They are quite similar performance tyres and to be honest the handling will be more upset by the tyre pressures and driving style. My Cerbie has a right old mix on it with Avons and Falkens and while I wouldn't recommend them for being the best tyres, the car is pretty well behaved.

Wouldn't worry...

That's good to hear. As I have only just replaced the rears due to a blowout on one side. The old tyres were pretty good too.

Michelin Energies ar the ones to go for.
Perfect in the Wet and dry, last 25-35,000 miles and superb for driving to the shops to get the latest edition of "Bunty".

Don't know if this is of any help or interest but I've just had to replace an SO2 and people on PH were great in helping me to find one SO2 as they have now been replaced by SO3s....but in the research was told by the TVR factory that ideally you shouldn't run a mix of SO2s and SO3s and certainly not on the track as the So3s are an entirely different compound - much harder - than the SO2s. If pushed you can get away with 2 SO3s on the back and 2 SO2s on the front but only on the road....or so they said. Kerridges also said the same thing to me.

I've had SO3's rear and SO2's front for nearly a year. Car handles very well.

Even at Oulton Park where it got a good thrashing and was very predictable! However, I now require 2 new front tyres after the last expedition. SO3's will be the choice for me.
