Having sent my 4.2 in for a probblem with the engine stalling constantly ,A yorkshire based TVR main dealer found a number of issues,, in the end they had it for a week at a cost of £820 nice,,
Iv just picked it up and it absolutly flew home to (hhhmmm Bradford) however since popping to tescos to get some lunch ,the car has now started stalling again ,they said they had set the throttle at 1100rpm, which for the first 20 miles was fine ,however it now will not tick over at all,,,

Please can someone give me some idea how this can still be happening after they said they had repaired it?

Best thing you can do is ask them.......
especially after paying out £820.

If it's stuck at Tesco's...Id get them out to pick it up too!!

Well, I get the odd unexplainable stall out of my 4.2 (procedure: look embarassed, press black button, resist temptation to rev & slip clutch due to cost ) but your sounds more serious: If you can, get it in to Joolz in Chesterfield. He will identify and fix the problem with a remarcable lack of B*llsh*t.

Poor engine setup. It sounds like incorrectly balanced banks. the car should idle at 900-950 rpm.
Though you'd be surprised at how many dealers struggle with the setup on the ajp.

Some early cars can be problematical to get right .. I think everyone has their own tweaks for getting it close as they can, but fact is sometimes they'll just stall for no reason.

1100 revs sounds high enough to *never* have it stall tho .. i generally set around 900-950 revs which is slightly higher than the 850-900 TVR suggest.

If it's down around 850 you've got to expect it to stall, tho i'm sure some out there are this low and have no problems too .. 1100 is way high tho.

Get them to take it back and tell them that if they don't sort it you're gonna let joolz at Joospeed have a look .. if anything's guaranteed to make them get their finger out it'll be that!! lmao

Japanese stall eliminator thingy-bob, thats what you need...

(sorry for the unconstructive help, but Joo's right, tell them the problem is back and you are not paying any more money for them to correct it, all servicing and work is supposed to be guaranteed, only when parts start falling apart would you need to dig further into your pockets, but just a simple config issue should cost you no more, TAKE IT BACK NOW!)

Could be the ECU flooding the engine, which has been known to happen if the ECU is dodgy or your lambda sensors have gone kaput.

i used to have a 4.5 before this , but that never had this problem, Il tell you what though joolz i might just pop your name into the conversation as iv got the service manager coming to my office in bradford in the morning, i shall be looking for his trouser flapping , an that depleting profit margin look in his face as i tell him i may go elsewhere if he doesnt sort it sharpish,,the upside as i mentioned is that the car is running,an pulling like a dream, is it worth re mapping the ECU iv been paying attention to some of the forum chats about certain re-maps or ECU chips to improve performance?

They have taken it back to Harrogate ,the guy thought it might be a faulty temp sensor on the engine, meaning not enough fuel was being pumped into it when when it was hot,as it wasnt an issue from cold

Yes he can. Now, are you going to make some useful contribution to this forum or not?
