What exactly gives a car that "new car smell" ?

And is there any way to make the smell last longer?

Freshly moulded plastics, glue and in some cases recently tanned leather would be my guess.

Chemical Guys sell an air freshener spray which attempts to replicate the smell should you choose to try and prolong it.

None of the "new car" scented air freshners ever smell anything like that "new car" smell.

Atleast I've never come across one that got close.

Do love that smell. Car show rooms smell of it too.

The reasons are as stated by DE1 75 above. I know of no way to replicate the plastics/adhesives smell but if you have leather upholstery/trim then regular conditioning with Gliptone (Liquid Leather) conditioner imparts a rather nice 'leather' smell to the interior.

Buy leather offcuts on eBay. Tape a bundle together and stick them under your car seat.

If you smoke or have dogs in the car then nothing can help you. smile

I've currently got new car smell air freshners in my series Land Rover. They are actually working quite well smile
