So I bought some dirt cheap 6" spotlights off ebay (these are for my boat by the way, not a car). They take H3 bulbs, and claim to be 55w 12v. But I've measured the current that they draw, and it's 3.4A for the pair at 12.8v, so 1.7A each which is a pitiful 22W consumption! I am wondering if they are really 24v bulbs or just really crap bulbs, but I haven't removed them yet to see what numbers are stamped on the bulb itself.

So I am looking to replace them with something a bit brighter. I've just noticed lots of places selling led H3 bulbs online, and claiming they are as bright as traditional halogens. That would be great if true, as any power saving is welcome, but I am sceptical that they are able to put out anything close to a halogen bulb?

Anyone tried these H3 led bulbs, or got any recommendations for decent halogen bulbs? I suppose a HID conversion would offer the best light output v power consumption?
