What do I need to know about Spa?

So, I had one of those civilised evenings last night round at my best mates house, his parents were there, their friends etc. Cigars and scotch and all that stuff. Woke up this morning feeling dreadful, used the BBQ to cook breakfast. Anyway, none of that is important.
He's a bit of a petrolhead like me. Loves his cars but due to his job drives a brand spanking new 320d, lovely car but not what you'd call a drivers car. In fact, I think he enjoyed driving my £6k 330Ci snotter with the roof down this morning despite his lovely £30k (I think) none-rattley precision engineered German saloon being available.
I'm going off on a tangent again.
He's suggested a road trip to Spa. I've never been. I want to go.
What do I need to know? Tell me all about it. I'd like to hear your stories, best places to stay (I believe we can camp?)
Treat me as someone who thought Spa was somewhere you went to get a massage and stuff.
We'll be taking the E31, how many miles? Will I need a Shell petrol tanker behind me? Are there some decent driving roads we need to be aware of?
