Hello all

Just bought my first Porsche today, a 944 lux in black. It's great, really enjoying it.

I have one problem though, I've taken the sunroof out and put in the boot for a bit. Then later on today I realised I can't get it back on. I've place it back on correctly but the button which moves the two metal bits and pulls the roof closed doesn't do anything anymore.

Not sure weather it's the button or I am just not doing it right. Do I need to line something up better or?

Any info pics or vids would be amazing.

Many thanks

To lock down the roof after removing it:
Make sure both the sliders (with the pins) are fully in (flush with body.
Set the roof in the aperture.
Turn the ignition to the first position.. ignition warning light off.
Press the sunroof switch ("up" position)and it should push the sliders outwards into the sunroof groove and then stop.
Roof should now be closed and secured.
Turn the ignition switch to the second position..ignition warning light on.
Press the sunroof switch ("up" position) and the roof should raise.
Press the sunroof switch ("down" position) and the roof should close.

Many thanks.

I'll try all that first thing in the morning, I've been reading online about it and tried with the key in first position etc. Hopefully I'll have more luck tomorrow. It all worked taking it off ok.

Probably the microswitch in the triangular bit at the fornt of the roof opening. It just needs the contact bending out a bit usually. Google Clarks Garage Porsche workshop, that has full faultfinding for the sunroof as well as most other 944 problems!

Plenty more in the PCGB 944 faqs as well, you don't have to be a Club member to use the 944 forum.

Thank you

The micro switch was the problem, I "adjusted" it with a screwdriver. Works great now.

Simple things.... it would be interesting to see how much the Porsche dealer would have charged for that.

Great result. The bad news with 944s is that their value is so low repairs seem far out of proportion, whereas in fact they cost just as much to run or restore as the (inferior) 911s of the same period which command much more money. The good news is that there is a huge community of owners out there, and parts are easily available.

You'd be surprised, but most Porsche centres should have fixed that for nothing. If, and it's a big "if", they have someone who knows the cars well, or was trained on them, they are happy to offer rates near to indies. Always call a PC for new parts prices first, before specialists or even used parts.

There's always the assumption that Porsche are out to fleece you at every opportunity, but in reality that's only on new-car options. wink

Thanks for the information. I will certainly keep that in mind.
