SWMBO is wanting to open her own account (presumably to keep an eye on me wink ).
However, the name she wants is showing as not available but I've checked the member list and it's not showing there. Certainly not a naughty word, so just wondering why it wouldn't be available.

Does the username have a space in it? I think they stopped new usernames having spaces but existing ones are fine.

Nope, no space.

Yes, you're right about the space thing though. I warned her about that before she set off.

There's a user name that I'd like that wasn't available when I signed up, and I'd still be keen to have it to harmonise things across the forums I frequent.

When I looked into it, someone had signed up with it several years ago, made a couple of posts asking for advice about emigrating, and then hasn't posted since.

Are names ever withdrawn from dormant members?

We don't prune and with circa 600k user records its possible usernames are taken.

Is there a way to find an exact match in the members directory rather than it matching all user names that include the query?

Was there something in particular you were searching for?
Google may help.

Hmmm that didn't work.

I wanted to lose the numbers and become simply Dan

When I wanted to change my name from Strike_J to ArtVandelay, it was taken and I had to used Art_Vandelay which was crap because it didn't highlight my quotes posts hehe

I then changed my name to something for a short while and I couldn't go back to Art_Vandelay as the "_" wasn't allowed in names anymore. Fortunately ArtVandelay had become available biggrin

Cool story bro... but I can't sleep so I thought I'd post on here.
