just enter from the web site when it accepts entries next year.

you will need to be a member of an MSA affiliated motor club but not nessesarily the organising one.

To enter you just have to belong to an affiliated motor club, no necesserily SDMC themselves. But ideally you need an interesting car, they let a certain amount of "normal" (?) cars in in but the more interesting car you have the better chance you have of geting an entry. But you dont need to worry until around feb/march next year! What car were you thinking of entering?
To clear things up, you need to be a member of one of the invited clubs as specified in the regs. That means you wait until the regs come out and join one of the clubs on the list if you're not already a member of one of them. I entered through Bristol Motor Club last year as they're one of the ASWMC clubs and the ASWMC were invited. Don't forget you'll need a Nat B Speed licence (or higher) and all the suitable safety gear. You'll also need to fit a timing strut and stick an "off" sticker on the ignition switch. If the car's not roadgoing and you end up in Sports Libre, you'll need a Nat A (Open) licence, but I doubt that's the case.
See you there...

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume this is your first time sprinting. You will need a helmet to the correct standard (suggest Snell 2010 for longevity), a Nomex race suit to the correct FIA standard (written on the collar of the suit) and Nomex gloves with the right FIA markings. This is important as without them, you'll be sent home - everything else can be worked around. Plays Kool Motorsport do cheap suits/gloves and Hedtec do cheap helmets if you're on a budget.
I'd also recommend you attend a sprint if you've not done so before and watch what happens. The Clerk of the Course will speak to each first timer to make sure they know what's going on, but latch onto someone experienced in your class so you know what you need to do when. Signing on, scrutineering, drivers' briefing, prepping the car and getting the engine warm for practice can come thick and fast in the morning if you're not ready. By the end of the day, you'll know when you need to warm the engine to be in the queue for the start line at the right time.
Crystal Palace is expensive, but you do get 5 runs in a day and it's a brilliant event. It remains one of the best ones I've entered yet, even though I didn't do as well as I had hoped.

Thanks for the info. I was going to enter the Speed trials a few years ago. Only got as far as the paperwork. I was aware of the clothing and helmet regs. I will visit a few sprints before Palace. I'm interested in Palace as its an interesting tight circuit and it's very close to home. Some a bit different from track days.
I wouldn't worry about it being your first sprint. It was my third (and fourth). There's not much to hit, surprisingly, other than getting it wrong at North Tower like I did. There's reasonable grip, but I've not driven it in the wet, so it might be like ice for all I know! Drive sensibly and you'll be fine. Bear in mind that equipment regs have changed in the last few years and several people have been caught out this year by turning up with suits that are no longer legal (Proban, generally).
I would always suggest a sprint at North Weald as your first proper sprint, especially if you are based in the SE. Only £60 / 70 to enter through your club, you will get 5 runs at least and you will get used to the routine of scrutineering and signing on in a relaxed atmosphere before heading out. You can also get used to the startline procedure with the timing strut and laser, and it is a completely safe place to learn what your car does when you corner hard at 100mph!
Personally I would never go near North Wealde again. It's a bloody awful surface and more likely to damage your car than any others I've experienced. You could always come along to Brands Hatch on Saturday morning if you want to get some experience of seeing a sprint being run first hand? There's another at Lydden Hill in October.
Crystal Palace was my first event last year and I loved it. This year was even better and the weather was stunning.
