Hello & good morning everybody. I would first like to introduce myself to the forum I have just been ordered to join by a business partner so here I am. I like cars as I presume the rest of you all do.

I have been looking at a dealer called Tom Hartley cars and have been shown interest in the Ford Focus RS for my son. I as many most of you will check out a company before I commit to a purchase with any new vendor I anticipate to deal with (due to being burned on a car purchase in the past). I have been reading about the company and it looks all impressive however, They state on a press newspaper they turn over 150 million, and of course this is a very impressive figure
(please see link - http://www.tomhartley.com/pdf/sun_article_the_supe...

Yet when I checked the company details their turnover is only 16 million are these guys for real and honest? How can that be as that 150 million looks like they are not telling the truth to make themselves sound better then they actually are and this set alarm bells of for me as how do I know the car I am getting my son is going to be a good honest working one if the lie about company turnover? Are these a genuine company as they look like it or just out to take money in return for bad cars?

Also on many other press articles they state higher turnover then what is officially on company records from past press clippings to?.

I usually go to other companies to purchase my yearly car but I am to consider using Tom Hartley cars, can anybody shed some light on the experience you have had with Tom Hartley cars in the past?

I look forward to joining the Piston Heads forum and becoming an active member for the foreseeable future.

Best,

Dan. L Jackson

Very odd first post, if you dont like the sound of them then dont buy a car from them. Plenty of other RS around im sure

Or is a sneaky stealth advert for Tom Hartley cars maybe

The 'article' (used loosely, being as it's from The Sun) states that his empire turns over £150m a year, not his dealership business. He probably has his finger in other pies.

It's also worth noting that you should judge whether to buy a car or not by your impression of the vehicle and the seller. IOW, get down there!

Hi. I am mainly looking for feedback previous buying experiences? any problems you had? pleasure to deal with etc?

I shall be going down next week if all the feedback comes back positive its just I live in Devon so its a long drive and a waste of time to go down there if not all adds up. I am also going down there to look at a car for me to not just for my sons RS.

If you do a search you will find Tom Hartley has been discussed to death in the Ferrari/ Lambo forum.

Read that then you can make your own mind up, but don't necessarily believe everything you read on the internet.

Best call/visit them and make your own judgement on the car.

PS, are you that American actor from Pulp Fiction, if so they won't mess with you.

I thought we didn't do naming and shaming on here. Unless it is a rapid tyre fitter, or an insurance firm you can only call directly on the the phone and such like.

I don't think it's that odd. OP might be spending a large sum there so it might be prudent to get some feedback on the place first.

Diligent rather than odd.

When I was reading that it occured to me that it seemed like a rather sideways way of getting someone into bad press.

But anyway.

It might actually mean diferent things-they might have turned over 150 million in their operating time, or it might be the gross turnover figure and 16 million is the profit they make.

Seems a bit weird, mind.

Do you research every company before you buy something? Going to a restaurant, on holiday, getting your haircut, etc must be a right ball ache for you smile
