Over the last 6 months our garage has become criminal, with the birth of our daughter crap has just been piling up and I never seem to find the time to sort it out, this came to a head during the week while I was trying to put the bike away my foot got snagged on a box causing me to get pinned between the bike and the wall!
After this I was on a mission to sort the s
t hole out once and for all! being completely ruthless with binning useless crap that we have not used or seen for years.
The following was achieved in around 15hrs not including drying time.

I simply wouldn't let my garage get into that state. I've had the OH try to put stuff in there in the past, but she gets it thrown straight back out.
I even got a shed as well last year for doing woodwork and gardening related tasks and storage, thus the only tools in the garage being automotive types.
Garages are for cars and motorbikes!
However I have observed that garages full of crap do seem to occur almost always with the onset of children

The paint was a fker, got everywhere hence up the first block. It won't be getting in to that state ever again.
Sending the OH to a boot sale next week to clear the rest of the junk.
The shelving is fairly good quality, a complete arse to put together though. Bigdug was the supplier they have some stonking offers on too.

I've been through this process at least 4 times over the past 15 years. Each time it evolves into another pile of crap.
The problem is, I need storage for bikes, workshop tools, spares for the car (currently some monster truck tyres), and my trailer. The solution this time needs to be more radical than more imaginative storage options. I'm going to have to build a dedicated workshop/storage "shed" in the garden OR buy another house with more room. Having been toying with the former for about a year, including drawing up some plans, I think we're just going to move house next year.
In the meantime, my current garage requires me to "shimmy" through it sideways (although I'm scarcely narrower sideways-on anyway).

This. I start off filling the boot of my car though and then empty that into the next space, any empty space will have stuff put in it, I currently have a spare bedroom that I stuggle to open the door on.Good work OP 
It's absolutely correct that garages are for cars & bikes, the shed is for "other" stuff and all the crap needs to go to the local tip.
Some people down my road have got a £20k car sitting on the drive and about £200 worth of st filling up the garage space.

Good work OP. I'm loving all these improved garage threads that are popping up recently.
I tidy my parents garage for them once a year and they still fill it with crap when I explicitly tell them to use the shed for it. But its their house, and they usually buy me something nice for my time spent doing it so roll on next year
