First of all, these are a complete waste of time and I'll NEVER be using them again.

Long story short, took out a policy in May with a few problems. One of the named drivers had reportedly made a claim in January (which they hadn't) and eventually it got sorted (so we thought) after 5 seperate phone calls.

Last week I then got a letter saying I owed them £217 because I hadn't made them aware of a claim in January, the same one which caused problems at the start. Another number of phone calls were made and it was sorted, apparently.

So today I get another phone call saying a claims company have said the named driver had made a claim. So they've given me 7 days to pay it or they're cancelling the policy.

The named driver has took out another policy with LV with no problems and we've spoke to Admiral who I was insured with when this claim was apparently made and they have no record of it.

So at the moment it's looking like I'm gonna be £217 out of pocket and there's nothing I can do. Even had admiral ring Elephant to say there's no claim and they won't believe them! At a lost end now.

Are there any bodies I can go to for advice, citizens advice or anything?

That's the height of incompetence considering they're the same bloody company.

Was the "claim" submitted in January, or the alleged incident in January?

If the alleged incident took place now and a claim, genuine or not (and if not genuine, whether fraudulent or as a result of a typo) is coming in eight months later, this is perhaps not that surprising.

If, on the other hand, the alleged claim was submitted in January, it is extremely odd that one company won't believe their sister company. To whom would the "claim" have gone - on your policy, or the named driver's own insurance policy? Would it be feasible to take the named driver off your policy altogether instead, i.e., is it worth £217 more than you planned to have them on there?

If this is all bks then you should eventually get the money back - keep pushing even if you have to pay to keep the policy alive in the meantime.

The names driver in question (my mum) hasnt had an accident or made a claim in 7 years so we've no idea where it's comes from. Just completely random.

If it doesn't get sorted I'll just pay the £217 and go through the financial ombudsman to try and get my money back. I just don't want them to cancel my policy because I'll never get insured again.

OP - there is a very specific reason I asked: was the alleged claim submitted in January, or does the claim relate to an alleged incident in January, which could have been submitted later, without your Mum's knowledge?

Secondly, I think you have the right attitude but before you can go to the FO you have to exhaust the insurer's complaints process, which means that you need to keep pushing away at the insurer first.

Yeah sorry I see what you mean. They've said it's for a claim that was made in January of this year. However they won't say what it's for or when the claim was for.

The trouble is, I can only get through to a call centre in India and without being too disrespectful, they aren't that helpful. I've got the number for the complaints department in Cardiff so I'll give them a ring in the morning and see what they say. I'll send them a letter aswell so it's in writing.
