The Panasonic bread baker is great but my family seem to like sculpting the loaf into random shapes instead of slicing it.

Any recommendations for a manual or electric bread slicer? Ideally one that doesn't take up too much space or that folds away.

I have one of these :

Loaves I make don't fit in the clear plastic breadbin, so I use that for when I buy normal sliced loaves. But the white plastic slicing guide works well on my homemade loaves.

You need a decent bread knife.

Not me. I could cut an even slice with a Swiss army knife. The sabatier does well but in the hands of my 12 year old it's a different matter.

I haven't got the bread knife, but some of the other knives in range surprised me as they are pretty decent http://www.tesco.com/direct/thomas-bread-knife/733... (wouldn't pay full price, but with 70% off its worth a look)

I find it far easier to slice a loaf laid on its side rather than sat on it's base.
And of course never try and slice a loaf that's in any way still warm.
