Just thought I would ask if anybody could tell me how good they are and anything that I should look out for as I have just bought a 2001 model with 130k on the clock to use as my winter car to save the TVR Tuscan another hard winter on the road?

1st impressions are that it drives very well if not a little thirsty on the fuel.

I had one, great car. If you want to see what it looks like with 18" Prodrive Alloys and 330mm brakes click on my garage!

The only issues I had with mine were driveshaft gaitors on the front going more than once. This is because the exhaust downpipes run underneath them and the heat causes the rubber to fail prematurely flicking grease everywhere. The other problem I had was a gearbox failure down to a collapsed bearing at the rear of the box. The subsequent debris blocked up the internal oil filter on the box until it ceased giving drive. Expensive rebuild, about 3.5k from memory all in but I think that was a freak occurence although it did get abuse through the lanes and I used to engine brake through the box by shifting down to 2nd regularly (well, every corner!).

I also fitted a VDC cut off switch to mine so I could enjoy not having the interference of the VDC which was a total kill joy imho, not allowing kick down if the steering was more than a certain angle, and I could also kill the ABS if I wanted to.

Good luck, it drives like a super sized Impreza. Enjoy!

Sounds like I have made the right choice for a winter car/work horse.

You have.
I run a 2008 3.0Rn Outback and the roadholding in poor conditions is very good and very reliable. It goes like stink and averages 28 mpg.
I carry a tow rope and have helped out several cars that lost grip on snow and ice. Always a pleasure when the Scooby is appreciated. Quite a Q car really.
Enjoy the winter.
