Brighton Speed Trials
Discussion
Just a heads up for any kit car fans in the south east, this Saturday 8th is the Brighton Speed Trials alone Madeira Drive. It is apparently the oldest Motorsport event in the world and the entry list has a good smattering of kitcats and specialist cars. Westfields, Caterhams, Ginetta, ADR and some fantastic British single seaters like Jedi and Pilbeam. I have enteredy Sylva Phoenix R1and am hoping for some good weather. In the motorcycle classes there are turbo Hayabusa bikes etc. and they crack 150mph along the seafront. Pop down and have a look. I think it is free to spectate along the top and £10 to get access to the pit area and get closer.
Well the day got off to a bad start as somebody was MURDERED last night right where the competitions cars were to be parked. The Police would not let anyone in or out until the forensics had done their job. Was talk of the event not happening, but it's all back on now.
Just done my first ever run up any dragstrip, and did a 13.65 @ 101mph. Not bad for a first attempt, want to get it below 13.5 if I can!

Well done Lee on your runs. Terrible news though, one dead and one seriously injured apparently

Was a tragic end to the day, still no news on if it was the husband or the wife who died. 1st hand account was that they crossed the finish line OK ( at 110mph apparently ) then something happened to the sidecar outfit, something exploded either a tyre or the engine. They then veered into a concrete post, which should have had tyres around it but at that speed nothing will help. Absolutely shocking, one left in the air ambulance. Condolences to everyone.
- TheLastPost, due to your tasteless comment on the other thread, I apologise that it wasn't me who wrapped themselves around a lampost. Think next time before you type such disgusting tripe.
Sam, even in jest don't wish other PH'ers "to wrap themselves round a lamp post". Its not funny.
- and edited to add: I am not a troll, and don't accuse me of cheapening anything. You were bang out of order wishing me to wrap myself round a lampost, have a word with yourself and behave, or please DO make this your "last post".

Neither of them left in the helicopter, it went away unused. There was an ordinary ambulance but the lack of really frantic activity observable from the gallery didn't bode well.
'The Argus' report is wrong in that they didn't fail to stop nor hit a 'barrier' as such, they were on the slow-down from their run, and for reasons not yet clear, hit the fence on the sea-side of the course just after the finish. The fence is chain link and therefore quite energy absorbing, but behind it are a number of concrete cones about two or three feet high. I believe the driver (or at least the one billed on the programme for the outfit) is a man from London. His passenger was reported to be a woman from Suffolk. Edited to delete specific names until confirmed.

Very sad! Lets hope act can be taken to stop this every happening again.'The Argus' report is wrong in that they didn't fail to stop nor hit a 'barrier' as such, they were on the slow-down from their run, and for reasons not yet clear, hit the fence on the sea-side of the course just after the finish. Maybe it's just me, but I'm not sure you should be naming the entrants until the names are officially released, especially as CF is not the name listed on the results on TSL-timings website
as the passenger.
I thought about that and concluded that anyone who has a programme of the event knows who was billed to be driver and passenger and I made sure I said that this was the billed names, not necessarily those of the people involved. Whoever they were it is a tragedy - one of very few in the history of the event I believe.as the passenger.

I have found that among the growing sources on this that CF might not have been aboard as billed. Another woman whose initial is also C is said to have been the passenger on the day. Perhaps the mods might care to remove the original name please. Apologies - the billing might have been inaccurate.
I think you can edit your own post by going to your profile, clicking on Forums and then selecting this thread. You should see it highlighted in yellow and they'll be an Edit icon....As I said, it's just my view on the matter, maybe I'm over-sensitive to these things having been present at a Goodwood sprint earlier in the year where there was a similar outcome.
