944 lux performance
Discussion
what are the official performance stats for a bog standard lux.
if i lightened by maybe 100 kilos would the performance come any where near an S2 up to about a 100 mph or so.
is there any cheap tuning tips for the 2.5 engine, also can anyone rocommend a good suspension set up that would make it sharper then my slightly wangy S2.

Using the figures from the US 944 FAQ at www.connact.com/~kgross/FAQ/944faq.html
I make the lux at 150 bhp and 1200kg so 125bhp/tonne
The S2 is 211 bhp and 1320kg so 160bhp/tonne
If you drop the Lux down to 1100kg it will only be 136 per tonne, down to 1000kg will be 150 per tone. I think you will struggle to get below 1000kg as the full on factory Le Mans GTR was 945kg (but that did have 375bhp

Your other posts have come through fine but I'll answer them all here.
You will not be able to get much more power from a 944 normally aspirated engine apart from bolting on a Supercharger for about £5k and 50% bhp. A chip, filter and big exhaust will gain about 10-15bhp but cost you around £400
Dontlift (on this forum) had good results using a fully adjustable coilover suspension kit from Leda on his track 944. Costs round £800

The official power for a european spec 944 2.5 is 163bhp and a weight of 1180. Not a big difference but it is all going the right way!
So the target is to get 180kg off. Unfortunately with the earlier cars being simpler this will not be as easy as getting it off the lardy S2s and the like with all their electronic gubbins and extra sound proofing.
If you want it just for the track the one make race cars ares around a 1000kg so it is possible just not comfortable.

If the cars for track use only then ditch the rear screen and replace with perspex (definatley not advisable for road use), the rear screen weighs over 25kg. The pespex version weighs naff all but will cost you about £200! The rear seat back also weighs a good 15 kg (so I'm told)and that can be unbolted and chucked away. From there things get tricky.
The carpets, spare wheel etc all weigh a bit getting 50 kg off the 1180 figure shouldnt be hard but getting much below that will take drastic measures.
