I am thinking of getting a Cayenne, for the practicality really. I want something interesting to drive, with 4WD and 4 seats (children).

Options include an Audi (S /RS), Subaru (complete with drug dealer in passenger seat) or a 4x4.

If I was to choose the Cayenne, what should I look out for, please? are there known pitfalls etc apart from the obvious crash damage etc.? I would be looking at spending less than £15k on it.

Many thanks,

Rich

Had an 2004 Audi RS6 for a couple of years, loved it. Wanted to be able to use as a towcar, not really recomended on the RS,
so replaced it with a 2004 Cayenne Turbo. Thought i might miss the RS6, but enjoying the Cayenne more :-))
Something so big shouldnt be as much fun......

Turbos are actually the best specced as standard, all the goodies....and stronger engines than the 3.2...as said, shouldn't really be as good to drive as they are or as cheap (relatively) to buy.
Main things, coolant pipe upgrade from plastic to metal, and make sure brakes, tyres have plenty of life in them as quite pricy to renew.also check ALL electrics work well, lots them and very annoying to rectify sometimes.
Enjoy !

I currently have a Subaru Forester, Prodrive everything plus some other mods.

It's a 57 plate with nearly 150k miles on it and I've also been looking at Cayennes ....

The Subaru manages overall 22 mpg on SUL.

I dont really want anything worse than this to be honest, so as I see it only the 3.6 will manage this. My mileage used to be very high, but now around the 10k a year mark so I can manage the crap fuel consumption to some extent.

Will a GTS manage over 20 overall ?? A turbo ???

If you turbo owners know what you are getting overall that would be really useful to me

03 turbo averaged 19.8 mpg over 60K miles mixed driving
not using SUL, just std tesco stuff usually

what was said above;
turbo lots of toys as std (inc Bose, air & pasm)
I'd try and find one that has had the coolant pipes done & poss the centre propsahft bearing; coil packs crack (it's a Porsche....)

MPG doesn't actually vary long term much across the range at that price level TBH

agree with that,my long term average is showing at 19 point something MPG
(04 Turbo)
If you are not doing mega miles then the purchase price/lower depreciation offset, make worthwile the MPG anyway.
