Virgin Media Tivo - Enclosed AV unit = Cannot change channel
Discussion
Hi All,
I have had VM installed today and had not really thought about the location of the Tivo box and required functionaility particularly well.
The tivo box has to live in an enclosed wooden unit underneath the TV itself. The problem is, I cannot change the channel unless I open the doors of the wooden unit.
Is there any easy solution to keeping the doors closed but using the Tivo Remote to change the channels etc? Something like an IR reciever?
Thanks in advance.

The Tivo boxes run hot. Ensure you have adequate ventilation for it.
Thanks for the tip- the space it sits in is large and ventilated to the rear.Found an IR repeater kit on eBay for about 9 dollars delivered. Maybe worth a punt? Receiver runs via USB which I can hook into the rear of the tv for power

Got a link? I built my own about 15 years ago, but it's getting a bit temperamental and I've long since lost the circuit diagram. Probably cheaper and easier for me to buy one these days.Found an IR repeater kit on eBay for about 9 dollars delivered. Maybe worth a punt? Another option is the marmitek product. Two small pyramid thingies, a transmitter and receiver. Position rhe receiver anywhere in the room and the transmitter in the cabinet. Point RC at receiver and it fires an IR beam via the transmitter to the kit. I think the part number is PM5900
I have a tivo in a cupboard in a different room. I say have, as the ir repeater which works fine for my additional box does not work for the tivo. No idea why it just doesn't.
So I now have the additional box as my main box and a tivo sat doing diddly squat most of the time in a room noone uses. very annoying!!!
I need to find some time to work out why it doesn't work as everyone I speak to says it should! its an ir repeater that sends the signal through the hdmi cable. I'm hoping its just a rubbish TX? sender at the box end
(Suggestions welcome by the way!)
Sorry, no help!! just frustrated by the same problem
