Distributor cap shield?
Discussion
As already mentioned suppossed to be a RFi shield. This possibly helped with the older tech in-car radios etc but now not needed with more modern electronics in the ICE options available. So in short 'as much use as a pocket in a sock' as they say! If its in the way take it off otherwise leave as is I guess. Interested in the amphanol like socket i can see below the dizzy with a little chain on? is this a cover for an electrical socket or a PAS cover??

That socket was part of the standard SD1 engine that was sold. It was used for diagnostics (there will be a pip on the front pulley that is detected by the thing on the other end of the plug).
It is not part of the standard epitest testing and can be removed for normal running.
My VDP EFi had one that was severely damaged when the fan belt went postal, it didn't make any difference.
