Gear Linkage replacement
Discussion
Hi,
Just bought a 52 plate focus 1.6 as a general run about while I have a project car on the go.
The car drives well and although the body work has more than it's fair share of knocks and scatches
I think I got a bargin at £900 one owner and FSH.
Only one thing lets it down and that is the gear change. The feel is a little vague and 2nd to 3rd is not good as the gate doesn't seem to centralise and it feels stiff and is slightly squeeky around
the lever itself.
I have had a quick nosey under the bonnet and noted it's a cable linkage to the box.
Is there any lubricating points on the cable or is it just a case of fitting a new one.
Is it a PITA to fit a new one and are there any pointers to bare in mind and where's the best place to source a new cable.
Thanks.
Paul.

If the gears dont centralise its because one or both of the springs are broken.
They are fitted to the bottom of the lever itself & are cheap to buy from Ford, a little fiddly to fit but dont take long.
Cables are a pita where they run under the dash but worth replacing the springs first as they often make a huge differance
