Specialist / Normal Garage?

Just interested in what work people send their cars to a specialist for and what they trust a local "general" garage with?

For example would you trust your local high street garage to change discs & pads on your P&J but send it to a marque specialist for engine work?

Or would it go to the specialist regardless?

Or do you just take it to Joe Bloggs garage regardless of what it needs?

I guess to a certain extent it depends on how specialist your car is?

But using the brakes example surely any competent garage shoudl be able to swap over discs & pads - and if you supply the parts, is there likely to be an issue?
