Auto Express Tyre Test

Mostly fao Jon- and people like that, there's a big tyre test in AutoExpress today.
Carried out at the Bridgestone track for tinfoil hat conspiracy theorists ( Bridgestone came 7th out of 8th btw ).

They've tested Nokian and Nexen alongside the usual suspects. Not top flight performance tyres but stuff like the Conti Eco Contacts, GY Efficient Grip and Vredestein Sportrac 5 etc...

EVO has done a tyre test too

is it wrong that I consider myself a Petrolhead and have heard of none of those tyre brands apart from Bridgestone

i put some Goodyear Durgrip on the good ship tbc yesterday

Some of the variants are just about to come on the market but I've heard of all the brands reviewed. Depends how 'into' tyres you are though I guess

Do they stipulate "all cars use their tyres in the same way" before the test? How many test cars do they have? Are the test cars different weights/layouts?

I'm guessing so as I bought a car about a year ago with new Nexens and the wet grip is dire.

I know it gets slippery when it rains but really these feel a bit like driving on ice when its raining.

It's a new tyre that is just about to be released here - maybe they've upped their efforts. Its forte was the wet desciplines, not so great on the dry ones.
Have a leaf through today's Auto Express or have a look online and it will give you all the gen

I had Nexen N6000's on my E46 325i Touring and they felt no worse than the Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrics they replaced.

You can't typically generalise a manufactures whole range of tyres by the performance of one tyre. (Unless it's a Wanli or Linglong or some such tripe.)

Just put a pair of Nexens on the back of my 540i (I know, I know; it was a bad month and I needed some for MoT).

They have incredibly soft sidewalls so ride quite well, but are shocking round corners. Never again.

Very true, generalisation is always sometimes bad.

Which is why I never recommend any Linglong tyres except for the excellent Winter Heros that I was so impressed with (compared to similar tyres from Bridgestone and Toyo) that I bought two sets.
