Got the choice over a Triumph Spitfire MKIII in BRG or a "Magnum P.I" 308 GTS. I know they are vastly different cars, but I lust over both. Obviously I'm a bit price sensitive as the 308 will be 850 euros for two days and the spit a mere 350. Is the Ferrari REALLY worth an extra 500 euros?
I had an Alfa Duetto
(of Mrs Robinson fame) from the same place last year, and she did the job wondefully - beautiful, Italian, nice engine note and easy to drive. But I would like to try something different. We're literally just going to be cruising around the towns and villages.

Good point Doofus(!). It is a 1979 model. Seeing as it is in Italy I would expect it to be Euro version, but it also has the tell-tail sign of the front spoiler being higher (ala Magnum P.Is) so could be an import. But the stats on the website suggest a 255BHP which would suggest a Euro version. Eeep I don't know. To be honest its not really about performance, I just want the best experience for the best value. I have a feeling the Spitfire will provide 90% of it for less than half the money. I guess it would be like buying a Ferrari...are they really worth the extra dosh when so much is in the name.
I think you are right, just part of me wants to find out what all the fuss is about the Ferrari - never driven one...except a 430 on a track for about 3 laps...and to be honest that blew me away.
Also, the Spit is was designed by an Italian I realise. Could help with the explanation in my head.

It can be trusted as far as the roof on any other cheap British sports car from the '60s and '70s...Depending on your car history/testicle size you may well have more fun in the Spitfire than the Ferrari, just because it's always easier to push a £4,000 car than a £40,000 one.
Are you hiring from Zephyrus by any chance? I think I recognise their fleet from the models you have described. If so, they are a great company and real enthusiasts - the leather bound road book is also superb. I hired their 911 targa for a week on honeymoon three years ago to drive through Tuscany.

Indeed; I actually damaged the Porsche when one of those moped pick-up things slid into me on a gravel road and stove in the rear wheel arch. It was all sorted out by the hotel owner whose 15 year old son was driving the pick-up but when the guys arrived in a 60s alfa saloon with a big bore exhaust to pick it up I apologised for the damage. He just shrugged his shoulders and said "Eh no problem; it's Italy" and drove off. No excesses, no forms, no credit card number, no checking the fuel level. I guess if one was expecting a shiny new Hertz eurobox you'd be disappointed but I liked the lived in feel of their cars.
