motorbikes in cycle lanes? quick Q for BIB's
Discussion
Its pretty irresponsible to use em though, seeing as on my bike i may be able to cruise along at 18mph or so on the flat but a motorbike is obviously capable of much higher speed and weighs more. Suffice to say i would be pretty p
ed off if i met one i traffic and he had nowhere to go!
However in terms of the law i would think that it would be illegal only if the cycle lane is separated from the main carriagway by a solid white line as it is certainly illegal for a car to cross into a cycle lane of this type.

I thought mopeds could use cycle lanes unless otherwise indicated, but I've just had a look at the highway code and can't see any reference to them.

No...the blue round signs show either a push cycles or a push cycle on one side of the sign with a line down the middle and on the other side of the line an adult and child...The latter sign is for the pedestrian and cycle paths..

Local Authority will make the Traffic Order in relation to Cycle Lanes on the Carriageways.(RT Reg Act 1984)
Within the Order will be what is permitted or proscribed.
Signing should be present to indicate whether it may not be used by other than unmotorised pedal cycles, or
if it can be used by vehicles other than pedal cycles and again signed to this effect. Noteable are Bus/Cycles only.
In relation to footpaths, LA have similar power to make an Order designating a footpath to be a cycle track allowing unmotorised cycles right of way along with persons on foot. (Cycle Tracks Act 1984.)
