Outrigger replacement
Discussion
Looking at buying a precat that has outrigger problems - not totally shot and it has nine months ticket so nothing urgent, but will need doing sooner rather than later.
Seen a thread a while ago saying that Willow do a good job at a reasonable price and do the work as a body off, which sounds like the right way to go as any other work necessary can be sorted at the same time - although I am sure that nothing else will need doing
Do Willow still have a good reputation?
Any other recommendations?

RT Racing in Sheffield have done a 400SE, S3, Tasmin Racer and the White Elephant chassis for me and their work for me has been excellent.
They are also the company that builds the TVR Power OEM Griff & Chimeara chassis, so for Griff and Chim owners surely it has to be a no-brainer!

White Elephant Chassis Before RT

White Elephant Chassis After RT
You can contact Richard at RT Racing on 0114 281 7507
Hope that helps

sportmotive can supply a premade outrigger set, that you can have welded in situ by a local welder, without removing or lifting the body at all
How do they weld the top of the joints without moving the body.Clearly all depends on the extent of the rot, but what ive seen looked spot on
ive seen a row of ready made outriggers there, all powdercoated, ready to go
i dropped my car in at ians for a repaint today, they had a car there doing outriggers.
the old ones are cut off flush at the chassis, and ground flat
the angled tubes to the top chassis rails are left with a short stub, and a sleeve joint pressed in the old tube
the new outriggers are , bolted up to the body, and welded in situ the inner corner plates are left off to make access easier
finally, corner plates are welded in .
the new rails are powdercoated already, and the welded areas are finished in zinc/2 pak etc.

Just had my outriggers replaced on my pre-cat Griff by Colin Apps at TVRS Wellington, Somerset. Did a great job and did not have to remove the body which helped keep the cost down. Colin also checked the remaining chassis and wax oiled the whole thing, brilliant.

I think the main question you have answered yourself, "the body really needs to come off", or how are they going to weld properly around each tube, without getting a "bird s_it" weld on the joint.Getting a mig touch in those tight spots is near on impossible with the body on and where are those hot sparks going whilst welding. I would ask your chosen company's, "If they do it body off and go from there.Seen a thread a while ago saying that Willow do a good job at a reasonable price and do the work as a body off, which sounds like the right way to go as any other work necessary can be sorted at the same time - although I am sure that nothing else will need doing
