I once bought a 215k ZX Volcane TD off ebay for £150. The front suspension was done in, kept trying to swerve into ditches with no input from me, and the rear beam was so knackered that one of the back wheels was cambered enough rub rub the rear wheel arch. After swapping most of the suspension components from my previous ZX td which had a blown engine (headgasket of course) it was a decent motor. After running it for three months till the tax and ticket ran out I sold it again on ebay for £151. Aside from the rear beams and cooling systems (and a aluminium head) they are quite durable beasts.

I had a ZX estate 1.9D. The only electrics it had was the starter motor and lights. That's why it managed to do 170,000 miles. Nothing to break. No electrics and no turbo. Bodywork was galvanised, but failed it's last MOT with fist sized holes just forward of the rear torsion bar. Weighed it in.
