Hi, apologies in advance if this is a stupid question(s), but is it possible to get the 2.9 V6 EEC IV Mapped to increase the power?

If so, has anyone had it done, and if done, will it be lost if battery is disconnected?

Any info much appreciated.

Thanks

To be honest Graham, most of us haven't a clue. We can't be trusted to program waypoints into a satnav, even when sober. So maps are wasted on us.
But I'm sure there's a gifted exception to the rule who'll be along shortly to help you out.nerd
Please excuse the rest of us, we've been around since before the abacus was invented.

Your question is sensible by the way.
My answer is stupid. But I was very very drunk.drunk

I let Austec loose on mine, must be a couple of years ago now, huge improvement and didn't need the "piggy back" chip so not too expensive.

I don't think just "tweeking" the ecu can produce much more power, that probably needs improvements to the induction etc. but it can release the full 170 odd bhp you should ( but maybe don't) have wink

Thanks guys, I have done pretty much all I know on the induction side. The only thing not looked into was the injectors, but as car runs ok I am assuming they are fine. Also not convinced exhaust is completely gas tight either, but can't see any obvious soot deposits.

I was hoping there was some software that could be tweeked or added to the ECU which increases the power without having to add additional microchips, etc.

I have no idea if the power is low on my S3, as I have nothing to compare against, but it just doesn't seem to really go until very high revs. I considered joining my local TVRCC mtg to see if there was any S owners, but the organiser told me on the phone there are only ex-S owners that attend.

So, the reply from Mike is interesting. If yours has been tweeked without any additional hardware, that seems to be what I am looking for. I'll look up Austec on internet for details.

Thanks again.

Interesting, what shape is the slot in the throttle plate where the little roller runs? As standard they have a kink in and delay the throttle response. If you modify it to straight (as many of us have) it makes the throttle more responsive lower down the rev range.

The rolling road session also showed up a faulty throttle pot and the fuel pressure regulator was "tweeked".

Austec is not exactly local to me and my one concern was driving all the way down there only to find out "so and so" component was faulty and set up couldn't be completed... come back another day !
Luckily I had my doubts about the pot and had taken a spare (and spare plugs. leads, diz cap, coil and just about anything else I'd got).

I couldn't believe the difference I felt from that mod when I reversed out of the garage after having it done!

What did you hit ? biggrin

A few Ford cars were fitted with the "straight plate" but finding anything with a 2.9 Cologne in a scrap yard is hard enough let alone one with the straight throttle plate.
Easy enough to modify if you can weld and use a file...... gotta be right though, don't want it sticking !!!!

Thanks for the Photo Mike, I can now understand what the previous string was referring to.

I'll take a look at mine tonight, but assuming mine has got the kinked plate, unfortunately I won't be able to weld it, etc. Don't have the gear/skill.

Also, checked the string re: Austec (thanks Han!), extremely interesting read.

As I live in North West, it is far too much distance for me. When the time comes (probably next year now) I may use one of the mobile Mapping firms. Seen one on web that replaces chip (probably required on old ECU's) for £295. Not too painful if results are right!!

Thanks again for the advice.

As I live in Holland, I will be going to Austec on 25th of October for a health check on the S ;-)
(as part of a short break to our friends in UK)
