New tyre advice. I'm some what stuck

Hi everyone,

The tyre size is 205/40/17' and I just want a good all round tyre. However, I always seem to get through tyres in 10k which I don't understand, as I don't spin my wheels or corner heavily day in day out. It is rare these days that I got for a spirited drive, however my tyre wear never reflect this. I did once manage to get 18k from a set of tyres (michelin Sport Contact 2s), but my current Pirelli P Zeros have lasted 10k.

Now I don't want a set of ditch finders, I do appreciate a good quality tyre and I believe in spending a bit more to keep me on the black stuff.

My local tyre garage recommend this tyre - Kumho Ecsta Le Sport. But are they any good? I would like at least 15k from my next set of tyres, if possible.

I will also mention that my tyre pressures are always as the manufacturer recommends and the wear on the tyre is even (a good sign I guess).

Kumho are a reasonable budget brand, but as for longevity - you'll be dissapoint

I used to be like you, wondering where the hell all my tread had dissapeared to - despite my relatively careful driving!

I've found out that, as always seems to be the case, you get what you pay for.

Since around 2005 when I was recommended by someone on here to use Michelin - I've fitted nothing other than Michie Pilot Sport tyres to my cars since, which encompass vehicles from Porsche 911 to my current Skoda Octavia vrs.

Simple fact of the matter is - Michelin PS's give great grip, predictablity, but above all else - massive longevity. Like 20k out of the fronts on my Skoda, and way more for the rears.

Budget tyres - for me at least - are a false economy. Ze Frenchies know how to make a fantastic, long-lasting bit of rubber, that's for sure!

I have 205/50/17's bought a full set of 'ditch finders' which were pretty good tbh for £60 a tyre. Lasted 8k miles.
Spent 500 quid on toyos (proxy? Not sure) done 10k mile!
Been told by many garages and my mate to try falkens. Good reviews so far and ive been quoted £73 a corner!

Have a look on line new tyre laws have tyres labeled like white good. You maybe surprised. Some budgets are better performing than branded tyres according to new labelling.
Can't see it myself but it's there to help make a more informed choice.

I'd be curious to try the Neuton NT5000. They seem to get universal praise, which is odd for a budget, and will come in cheaper than the Kumhos.

I have them and they are really great, seem to review better than Toyo/Falken but are better value than the bigger normal brands.
