Best upgrades for Defender
Discussion
Absolutely nothing wrong with the standard, a little bit extra acceleration is all I am after.
Insurance Jon - thanks for mentioning the review in evo, I had not read it. Too extreme and expensive for me, basic remap and upgrade should do the job.

If yer want to go fast, get a fast car...
The Defender wasn't built for speed (It wasn't built for comfort either but that's not the point...)!!
If you're wanting speed in the Defender, then chances are that you'll be crashing through the gears too. This doesn't do the Defender drive train any good and you'll quickly start to wear the splines, etc... create slack and then compound the problems even further!!

I have been lucky enough to own two Twisted Defenders, and whilst they are expensive they are pretty awesome vehicles, probably not to the taste of the hardcore Defender owners as can be seen by the comments above, but horses for courses.
I would recommend getting yourself up there and speak to Jon or Charlie and go and have a blast in one.

WTF is it with people recently, wanting a Defender to out do a Porsche.
Defenders do what they're meant to do admirably so just leave 'em to that.
Decent tyres, HD springs and a Border Collie are the only upgrades you need.
Thanks for the views and opinions.
Changing out of a Cayenne Turbo S, I will be running a fast car along with the defender. The defender will be used off road a lot of the time with my work, problem is I do 20,000 miles a year driving between sites. In and out of quarries, I drove a 2.4 for a weekend on test drive. Really enjoyed hustling along, more satisfying at times driving closer to the full power in all gears.
On upgrading cars I am probably biased, DMS have worked on my cayenne and my wifes 350 diesel, great improvement on both. The twisted option looks the closest to achieving these kind of gains.
I think the likely route will be to run the car for 6 months and assess and drive a twisted unit.
Thanks again.

There are some proper tarts on here......The OP wants a bit of extra power from his Defender.
A Twisted P10 upgrade is never gonna be a Cayenne challenger and that's what he's after.
After having driven a new std car recently I can understand why. I went up to Twisted, met John and drove their Demo. Still not fast by any standard really and hardly ever likely to put any extra stress on anything especially as robust as a Defender.
The upgrade offers more torque which is very useful in this car as you don't have to keep swapping cogs. This makes for a much easier drive.
The Twisted upgrades are cracking....go for it

Go easy, certainly not looking to challenge the Cayenne.A Twisted P10 upgrade is never gonna be a Cayenne challenger and that's what he's after.
Appreciate the views, I will likely try a test drive. Cheers
Little things I'd go for
i) decent bulbs as the headlights are avg at best
ii) noisekiller kit to dull off the ditch pump of an engine
iii) better shocks calms the ride out
iv) the VW wiper relay to give the variable wiper function (sort of)
v) mud rails (or anything to get better legroom)
vi) the leather door straps
vii) smaller steering wheel
viii) the gas strut for the rear door
ix) better seats ( tho this is pricey)
as for a little more oomph its Alive , BAS , JE or Twisted..... or BAS are doing the 3.2 5cyl Ranger lump, which looks v interesting.

Ps I'm in the tart category

No offence taken.
I have heard the mud rails mentioned before, likely to be worthwhile mod. 6ft 1".
Any recommendation on where to buy the door straps?

A remap and other normal tuning mods (exhaust/induction) will all improve performance. It's nothing new, nor drastic. People have been tuning cars for over 100 years FFS!!!
OP are you fussed about warranty? As it's something you might want to consider if modding.
The price of additional power is a few hundred quid spent on tuning.OP are you fussed about warranty? As it's something you might want to consider if modding.
The cost, however, is far harder to calculate.
