Can all hants members can you send me some piccies and information so that we can start to develop the members section.
Please note that the news section & sundays section is still to be updated as it was only being used to test the site.

Craig, congrats on the new site.
I briefly discussed regional websites with Mr_T at the Surrey meet the other night, as he was telling me he wanted to update his site but is trying to find the time and/or expertise.
What I dont understand (I'm sure someone will now show me the error of my ways
) why the TVRCC cant/dont make an all singing & dancing website template with lots of lovely stuff like regional forums(discussion groups)/days out/events, member's cars/profiles, local links and info etc etc (I think you get the drift)that is easily updatable or 'tuneable' (well, it is for TVRs
) & that can be given to each region/RO? It would keep a constant theme for all TVRCC websites and more importantly, would allow those regions who's ROs (who do enough hard work as it is) who arent as technically adept
as others, to still have a fancy website that is easy to work with & keep up to date?
Of course, these templates may already be available and may or may not be used or wanted by the ROs. In that case, ignore me, I'm just a plonker who will crawl back into the hole where I belong

There is a template see for example www.tvrcc-wiltshire.co.uk (on www.tvrcc.com see Members Services & Info/RO Area/Websites, ask Paulc for details.
The Hants site pre-dates the template, but agreed keeping the design fresh and the content up-to-date is a major task.

David, no disrespect to Wiltshire (the Region, not the county!) but that website is downright nasty...
Surely something like Hants new site (or better for all those 'flash' lovers etc)can be done as a template.
I'm no web/html expert (my website creating goes about as far as MS Frontpage
) but I'm sure the club/someone can do better than that?
Feel free to tell me to STFU if I am now talking borrocks

As the one responsible for the East Midlands website (www.tvrcc-eastmidlands.co.uk) i agree the TVRCC template lacks in certain areas(!). We started off with a revised version of the template (which worked) and have now moved to a refreshed design because the club moved on and no template was issued to the regions.
I did discuss this with Paul C when the new TVRCC site was about to be launched, but he said there was no template to reflect the new design
And yes, it would be relatively simple to create a template to suit. However, it's not just a template for the site itself - ours includes a full management site to allow the RO and members to update the site themselves...so there's a lot of work behind the simple site you see.

And yes, it would be relatively simple to create a template to suit. However, it's not just a template for the site itself - ours includes a full management site to allow the RO and members to update the site themselves...so there's a lot of work behind the simple site you see.

Time is the issue for me more than ability - I work with 'puters for a living - so it's simply that work has taken over my life recently to the extent that I only get round to webby things at the weekend. The weekend is often busy with tiv'ing so bang goes the time to do a websites. I expect most other ROs are in the same boat. The reason why Surrey go it's site in the first place was down to the efforts of David Hughes, not much to do with me.
Re. templates, it's the right way to go, but templates mean longer development times and also the need to explain how the template is to be used. This means documentation and also providing additional help for questions that weren't predicted at the time of writing or to cope with deficiencies in the documentation. Documentation is pretty much always the first thing to be ditched when you're under time pressure too, since its not essential to get a program, website or whatever working. So that pretty much sabotages sharing work with other folks, despite best intentions.
Paul Calland put a stack of effort into getting the new TVRCC site completed and myself and others put ourselves forward to participate. This was achieved to some extent, with involvement in testing the new site pre-live running and so on. For me though, things moved a lot quicker than I could keep up with in terms of implementation, so didn't really get into the requirements and design of the site, as I wanted to.
Now, if we're really serious about getting a template together across the regions, that makes an ROs administration efforts a whole load easier then count me in. I have plans for this anyway, but they'll take a while to implement and anything that makes this time shorter and gives me a means to help others doing TVRCC web things is a great idea. Anyone interested?

Steve, one of my companies (dare i say it, an estate agency...ducks and runs) has to upload/delete numerous properties to their site each week, but they have a nice simple bit of software for adding photos/descriptions etc (plus allows making ammendments in many other areas of the site) which just needs the info/text/jpgs put in the right boxes, hit the submit button, and it uploads to the site, resizing and positioning automatically, saving all the aggro for the person doing the work (just a regular person, no need for an overpaid IT person (ducks & runs again))
I just thought a similar sort of thing could work for the club? Many estate agents now have all of the above done via the web these days, using the forms on the hosting website as opposed to stand alone software like ours (which is cheaper than the web option and gives us more flexibility on content, IMHO).
I would offer to help, but dont think I'll be taken seriously sitting at the back of a meeting with an A4 notebook, sucking a biro (ink now in my mouth) looking into space as I havent got a clue what everyone else is talking about and then chipping in with the odd stupid remark... a bit like my contribution to this thread really
