New Mondeo with 1 litre ecoboost engine

I wouldn't maybe use the word 'cool' here, but that is a hell of an achievement if it has the power and the torque to pull along a big car like that. Dare I say the new Mondy even looks good from the release pics? Clearly none of those are poverty spec though.



Now, if they had only changed the model name... "mondeo" does have a negative image.

My vote goes for Mondildo.

They're putting this engine in everything, should be great for modification in a few years time. They'll be lots and lots of cheap spare parts around I'd expect!

Brave move, will people want a 1.0 mondeo? It's a big car and it's going to take a massive push to sell these over diesels or larger petrols.

That Mondeo looks quite good! Not sure about the engine... serious doubts it will good enough in the 125bhp form; unless they slot in that 170 hp 1.0 from the Focus they are planning to bring out. Mind you boggo Mondeo's arent meant to be super nice to drive, they are cheap for a reason so everyone can afford it overall. (which means that the cheap ones may not look as good) but...oh well.

They are really shoehorning that engine into everything at the minute, whats next the 1.0 ecoboost transit? That said I really like the looks of the new mondeo. With the exception of the Focus, Ford have produced a cracking looking lineup.

I really think these new Ecoboost engines are fantastic, the industry needed a development like this.

Best thing about this car is will force aston martin to alter their id for the front of their cars, which let's be honest is getting a bit old.

Have PH done a drive test yet? It might have the power but is it reedy with no torque is my concern

It has more torque than the 1.6 it replaces.

I've not driven a 1.6 Mondeo but a 1.6 N/A Focus is majorly down on torque - "more than the old one" isn't necessarily a synonym for "enough."

I really enjoy looking at that car..... never thought I would say I got 'enjoyment' out of looking at a family sallon car.

Would like to see a beefed up 'ST' or 'RS' version

Agreed though most won't have those large alloys on them. I fear it will end up looking like the new Lancer saloon-nice looking shape ruined by 16 inch alloys.

Isn't it essentially just a face lift for the current Mondeo? From the front wing back it looks exactly the same. It is a much better looking face for it though, granted.

Just a quick point - that white car in the OP is actually a US spec Fusion, here's the UK spec Mondeo, looks pretty good IMO:

The Volvo S80 is okay with the 1.6 diesel, don't see this being that much different. (apart from it's petrol... )

Isn't that the Taurus in the US? We give the 3.5 V6 out to our entry level employees and they all give good feedback on them. My next car will be the Explorer with the 2.0l ecoboost engine.

I can't stand the look of this new Mondeo. It's like 50 people had input into its design, and it just kind of coalesced around the shape of the old one. The details are OK, but in general it looks to me like a busy mishmash with no "fluidity".
