Should the mil led and (i) led come on with the igntion and go out after starting? Mine don't and I wondered if they should.

The MIL light and buzzer should come on with the ignition on and immobiliser off. The handbrake light should come on with the ignition on and the handbrake on.

Bugger, thought that was the case. I will have a look at the handbrake switch connection as that maybe simple, any ideas why the mil light wouldn't come on? Will check LED itself as a 1st step.

Wasn't aware of a buzzer? What does the buzzer indicate?

There's a fuse that you'll most likely need to replace. I think I put a photo up in one of my replies.

The buzzer should sound when the MIL light is on or when you hit the rev limit. There is a volume control on the back of the dash board so that may be turned right down - or it is the fuse Paul mentioned.

I know you are all going to laugh but I can't get the binnacle off! I have removed the lower panel, removed the wing nuts, loosened the fasterners holding the other parts of the dash but the thread that goes from the binnacle through the dash is too long! When I lift the binnacle there is still 20-30mm left sticking through the lower dash so I can't remove it. Any suggestions?

The pinnacle bends slightly. I had problems too, just try to keep the threads from scratching the leather when it eventually pops out.

its easier to get it off if you get the left hand thread out, and pivot it on the right then lift it all out, sometimes helps to lower the steering wheel on the adjuster.

As for the fuse, its a 0.5 amp pico fuse, RS and the like sell them, soldered to the PCB.

You have to remove the pcb from the dash to solder it, held on with two plastic nuts, and two multiplugs,

So the MIL light can work minus the buzzer?

Assuming the buzzer can be turned down enough that either you can't hear it or its off then yes.
