Help me make up my mind please

The Mrs is away and am cooking for me and the oldest son who is 6.

Anyway I have a hole chicken and am don't know if I should just roast it or butterfly it and stick it on the BBQ. Roasting would be the easy wayout but BBQ could potentially be very nice?

Suggestions please.

Barbie all the way, but make sure it's well cooked as Salmonella can be very nasty.

I'm sure your kid will love the bbq, give it a go. Plenty of the UK seems to have the weather for it today, so may as well make the most of it while you can.

Frustrating for me living in a flat with no garden, so at least you have the option to bbq! Saying that, I'm a 2min walk from the beach, but those disposable tray bbqs are hardly versatile things, though do the job.

Butterfly and cook indirect for 40 mins or so. I found that cooking it indirect with skin side up and legs pointing towards the hotter side results in a good chicken. Just flip it over a few mins before it's done and move over the coals to get a nice crispy skin. Did this with 2 chickens a couple of days ago, one in nandos marinade and the other in a peruvian one. Delicious!

In England, if you can use the BBQ, do it!

I actually just misread that as "...Salmonella can be very tasty." and nearly spat my drink out before I read it properly!

That makes for some interesting reading, and its the method I used and described a few posts above.

BBQ every time. Beercan chicken or rotisserie.

Yum.
