Does the Suzuki have the Bosch ECU listed? If not, no.

Has he remapped a car before? If not then I would read up on it first and a wideband is essential.

He hasnt mapped before. Is it worth buying? I thought the ecu kits were thousands of pounds?

It may work - it depends on what type of ECU the car uses and if there's any encryption.

It's not as simple as plugging the car in adding a bit to a few numbers and boom you get more power.

I could understand DIY mapping and learning on a snotter but on a 2010 car I think it's asking for trouble - if he melts the pistons I'm sure he wouldn't be too pleased.

Ah okay cheers, he thought he could get a map off the internet and bobs your unclr. If he asks for a company to customise one a discounted rate do you think that would work?

Would you trust an engine to a random map dug out on the internet? Even without the possibility of malicious tampering, there's always accidental data corruption.

If he wants it mapping take it to a map house and get them to do a proper job. They won't give a discount to use someone else's tools (if they even touch them at all, I wouldn't).

You could simply upload a map that you found on the internet, but I wouldnt just do that an hope for the best, I would always check it with the wideband, make sure its not too lean or rich at any point and also check that it isnt detting (with det cans if you cant log from the knock sensor), but thats much less of an issue in an n/a engine.

To be honest, I wouldnt bother, if its a standard engine with no mods, its unlikely you will make any huge gains - you might get a little bit more power if you fill it with 99 RON and see if you can add some ignition advance and lean it out a little (depending on what the AFRs are), but we arent talking big gains really.



However, I wouldn't discourage against DIY mapping (I do it on my car) but just make sure you fully learn all about it.

Ill tell him not to bother haha, hes got the exhaust and i think has just won a carbon fibre induction kit. I said it would be best to remap to take full advantage of it but a 5-10hp gain isnt worth the £250+ cost to him
