Brighton Speed Trials - middle tier open to spectators?
Discussion
Up until last year we'd always spectated from the middle tier, for which you had to buy a ticket. I was always happy to do this.
Then last year this middle tier was shut (due to safety concerns I think) and the only spectating was a very small area by the beach - not a good view, or from the public roadway at the top.
Anyone know if the middle tier will be open this year?

It wasn't open last year. I think the years have taken their toll and it had a notice to the effect that it was unsafe for the public. Just checked my finals and they confirm that the middle tier is not open to the public.
However I think that last year they extended the viewing area further forwards underneath that tier, so at least they didn't expect it to fall down suddenly

.I am sorry to learn that. This could cause the demise of the event, I fear, because BHMC must miss the revenue from those people who used to pay to go down on the lower level in their many hundreds. I shall be there, though, as I have been most years since my parents used to take me back in the sixties. Any excuse to visit one of the most vibrant places in England.

After the event on Saturday I noticed that the middle tier was opened to the general public. Apparently it is closed for the event as the railings may not be strong enough to withstand the vast numbers of people leaning on them during the event! 'Tis a shame though as it is a far better place to watch, as you say.
